Classification le: Engineering Technician II Job overview: The Department of Chemistry is seeking an Engineering Technician II. The technician will work on repair, modification, and design of scientific and custom instrumentation. Repairing, maintaining, designing and troubleshooting electrical and electronic equipment for chemical research. Duties and ignments include, but not limited to: Provide engineering support in troubleshooting and repairing a broad range of scientific instruments in the context of teaching, research and departmental service instrumentation. This includes a very broad spectrum of equipment from precision temperature measurement devices through complex computer controlled mass spectrometers. Work involves pure analog legacy instrumentation up through modern digital microcontroller based instruments. Provide technical support and guidance to faculty, students, and staff who require the shop's services, such as intricate electronic embly, istance in component selection, and cost effective problem solutions. Aid the operation of the electronics shop: maintaining inventory, shop maintenance, and sourcing and purchasing components. Design and construct equipment and software for use in teaching and research, such as high voltage AIR CONDITIONED power supplies, analog and digital circuitry for class exercises, custom dc power supplies, and other specialized lab equipment. Other duties as igned. Expected Salary: $19.25 - $21.55 per hour, commensurate with requirements and background. Basic requirements: High school degree or equivalent and three years of relevant background. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may subsute at an equivalent rate for the necessary experience. Preferred Requirements: ociates or technical degree and 1 yr of appropriate background Ability to read electrical schematics and trace operational circuit flow. Knowledge of basic electrical systems including motors. Knowledge of CAD schematic entry and creation of circuit board fabrication package. Soldering ability to replace through hole and SMD components by hand under a microscope. Knowledge of troubleshooting methods. Background using basic tools for making/modifying electronic prototype equipment. Special Instructions to Candidates: In order to be considered, you must upload your cover letter and resume.
