EHS Teacher/Teacher Trainee
Position summary Job Summary This is a temporary training position. Under the direction of the Site Coordinator, the Early Head Start Teacher Trainee is responsible for the learning environment, care, personal health, safety, and welfare of infants and toddlers within Federal Performance Standards 45 CFR 1304 and any additional standard referring to education services, classroom operations, or comprehensive services. The EHS Teacher Trainee will receive coaching from the Site Coordinator, EHS Teacher, and EHS Mentor Coach in order to obtain the required skillset to become a permanent EHS Teacher. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical ignment to the position. Essential Job Functions Attend pre-service, in-service, staff meetings, conferences, training sessions, and workshops as required by DHS Licensing, Federal Performance Standards or as igned by the Head Start Director. Comply with the education content as indicated by the Performance Standards, program essment, and program written plans. Establish a positive classroom climate by engaging in respectful interactions with children and families; building relationships with individual children; helping children build relationships with each other; using appropriate child guidance techniques; sharing in children’s classroom activities; showing enthusiasm and encouragement; using appropriate verbal and physical affection; outlining positive expectations; following the children’s lead and incorporating their ideas; giving clear instructions; asking open ended questions; providing real-world applications to studies in the classroom; providing a print and language rich environment in the classroom; showing sensitivity to children’s feelings and points of view; and providing opportunities for children to express their emotions appropriately through art, music, movement, dramatic play, storytelling, and talking with caring adults. Ensure classroom compliance based upon Performance Standards, Oklahoma Child Care Licensing Standards, and all other related standards; incorporate results of tools such as ERS, health/safety checklists. Demonstrate competency in planning and implementing individualized learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children, including improving the readiness of children for school. Establish and maintain safe, healthy learning environments; support the social and emotional development of children; and encourage the involvement of the families of the children in the program and support the development of relationships between children and their families. Be familiar with the specific goals in the Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework, state Early Learning Guidelines, and Local Education Agency (LEA) expectations and ensure curriculum-targeted skills and knowledge address (align with) established goals. Analyze individual, ongoing, child-level essment data from a variety of sources for all children participating in the program, and using that data in combination with input from parents and families to determine each child’s status and progress with regard to, at a min, language and literacy, cognition, approaches to learning, perceptual, motor, and physical development, social and emotional development, and to individualize the experiences, teaching, and services to best support each child. ess child progress on an ongoing basis and aggregate and analyze data at least 3 times as designated throughout the year and use that data in combination with other program data to determine progress toward meeting program goals, to inform parents of the results, and to direct continuous improvement related to curriculum, instruction, professional development, program design, and other program decisions. Manage each child’s learning environment, essment, weekly lesson plans, and weekly objectives as individualized to meet child’s development needs; must include the child’s parents during the planning process. Maintain licensing standards prescribed by DHS and meet Performance Standards; designated Licensing Directors must fulfill the MSHS/EHS Licensing Director Roles and Responsibilities. Operate and maintain appearance of the classroom and center in general. Attend to and/or clean children with personal hygiene issues including soiled clothing in a timely manner. Conduct 3 parent/teacher conferences in the center and at least 2 home visits to share child’s progress and gain input on the educational program from respective parents. Strive to maintain 85% classroom attendance and report reasons for absences, or tardiness according to procedures. Encourage parent involvement; achieve and maintain good parent and teacher relationships. Participate in bi-monthly classroom staffing of children. Educate, train staff and collect the recording of non-federal share match (in-kind) to be done weekly for monthly reporting; ensure min amount of in-kind is met each month. Conduct weekly classroom planning meeting and submit meeting notes to Site Coordinator. Keep current and accurate records. Demonstrate familiarity with employment policies, performance standards, agency work plan/objectives. Maintain congenial and respectful relations with staff, children, families and community. Maintain objectives and professional standards; must be a reliable employee with attendance, timeliness, and attitude to provide a positive, productive, and consistent relationship with children and families served. Demonstrate commitment to mission, vision, and values in the performance of daily routines; model appropriate behavior and provide direction to volunteers, substitutes, and floaters. Maintain confidentiality in regards to staff and family details. Fulfill role as mandated reporter as stated in Child Abuse and Neglect Policy. Commits to always act in the best interest of the agency. Presents a welcoming environment to the people we serve. Must complete all mandatory and required trainings, on-time, upon orientation and annually thereafter. Performs other program-related ignments as designated by _______________ (Site Coordinator). Knowledge and Skills Demonstrate competency in planning and implementing individualized learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children, including improving the readiness of children for school. Expertise to follow oral and written instructions with expertise to read, interpret, and present info efficiently and effectively; expertise to read, interpret, and implement program guidelines effectively and efficiently. Participate as a productive member of the class-based management team and work cooperatively with all center/program staff and volunteers. Can articulate and model the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Expertise to communicate effectively verbally and in writing both internally and externally. Must be task and detail-oriented. Must have a min of training or have equivalent coursework in age-appropriate early childhood and child development and obtain an Infant-Toddler Child Development ociate (CDA) credential within 6 mnths of hire date. Background with Infant/Toddler age group preferred. Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, stretch, lift, and/or carry children up to fifty pounds and attend to children who are developmentally or physically delayed. Must be able to drive a private or agency vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license, current vehicle insurance and pass a MVR. Requirements Must have a min of training or have equivalent coursework in age-appropriate early childhood and child development and obtain an Infant-Toddler Child Development ociate (CDA) credential within six months of hire date. Background with Infant/Toddler age group preferred. Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, stretch, lift, and/or carry children up to fifty pounds and attend to children who are developmentally or physically delayed. Must be able to drive a private or agency vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license, current vehicle insurance and pass a MVR. Supervisory Relationships Works under the direct supervision of the Site Coordinator. Coordinates the work of the volunteers.
