Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the position of Deaconess Studies Faculty, who will also serve as the Program Lead for the Deaconess Program. This position is responsible for ensuring a cohesive deaconess student experience from initial contact to commissioning in The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) for undergraduate students and occasionally certificate or colloquy students. Because the teaching load and program leadership does not meet a full-time load, the deaconess will fill out the position with teaching responsibilities in another area of the university (as qualified) or in campus ministry.A qualified applicant must be a rostered deaconess in the LCMS, in good standing as a communicant member of an LCMS congregation, and a professional member of the Concordia Deaconess Conference. Responsibilities/Duties: Teach and coordinate courses taught in the Deaconess curriculum Serve as Deaconess Program Lead, including: Advising and caring for deaconess students Assisting CUC offices with recruitment, church relations, marketing, Synodical placement, etc. Coordinating with other CUC church worker programs and their Program Leads Networking with other LCMS deaconess programs and staff, the Concordia Deaconess Conference, and other LCMS entities Teach in another area of the university or serve in campus ministry, as qualified Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. Skill Sets: Adept teacher of God's Word and diaconal subjects Strong capabilities in spiritual and merciful care Servant leader who models compassion and mercy and can capably interact with university and synodical leadership Competent administrative skills, including related computer and technology skills for teaching Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; able to keep confidences and honor federal regulations in the best interest of students Enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education and Concordia University Chicago Exhibits a service mentality toward all stakeholders All communication with stakeholders is effective, professional, accurate, and timely Improves work performance and that of others by being receptive to and appropriately sharing information Minimum Experience Required: At least 3 years of deaconess experience in an LCMS congregation, institution, and/or mission Preferred :At least 5 years of deaconess experience, serving in two or more deaconess settings. Education Requirements: Master's Degree in Theology or Theology-related field such as Deaconess Studies. Completed a Deaconess certification program of the LCMS or received LCMS certification by colloquy; currently rostered as an LCMS Deaconess. Compensation and Benefits: Starting range and faculty rank is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience.
