Creative Director, Marketing About Sandy Hook Promise Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings, and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. SHP is a moderate, bipartisan organization that supports sensible policy solutions that address the human side of gun violence and make schools safer. SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Job Responsibilities Sandy Hook Promise is seeking an innovative, experienced, and dynamic Creative Director, Marketing to develop compelling and engaging content to deepen connections with parents and caregivers, educators, caring adults, and other relevant audiences. In concert with their teammates in Marketing and working cross-functionally across the entire organization, this person will be responsible for curating and executing a comprehensive creative strategy, with a focus on visual and audio assets that align with SHP’s fundraising, policy and programmatic goals to drive brand awareness, affinity, and support. This position reports to the Vice President of Marketing and will have 2 direct reports: Manager, Multimedia and Manager, Graphic Design. Essential Functions: Creative Strategy - Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement a content strategy that aligns with our marketing goals and calendar, affirming our position as a leader in the gun violence prevention space, strengthening thought leadership in the school safety space, and educating the public on what we do in ways that connect with both the head and the heart. Content Creation - Oversee the creation and curation of quality, relevant, and engaging content and determining the best distribution platform(s), with a focus on video, audio, digital content, blog posts, social media, or other digital/print channels. This position will need to produce some content themselves while on occasion outsourcing and aggregating content. This person will need to spend time in the field with our programs, policy and other teams working with educators, students and policy makers to bring our mission and stories to life in an emotional and compelling manner. Brand Visuals & Messaging – Oversee development and evolution of organization and program brand standards and ensure all output conforms to brand standards. Agency & Vendor Management – help manage relationships with creative agencies, producers, videographers, photographers, etc. to ensure quality content is developed. Project Management & Reporting - ensure smooth and efficient project management of all creative requests, including intake and production via Monday.com, creative briefs, and reporting on the usage and effectiveness of creative content. Personnel Management – Manage and develop a small staff of creative professionals. Optimize Performance – Work with key stakeholders to identify success metrics for content produced (social engagement, page views, video views, etc.), monitor performance, and leverage those learnings to inform future content development. Industry Trends & Knowledge - Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to identify new opportunities for content innovation and growth. Content Innovation - This position is also expected to learn and evolve best practices in this arena and discover ways to utilize AI for generating quality content of relevancy and how AI can support/expedite current content creation. Travel – This position may require up to 25% of time in the field capturing content. Desired Skills and Experience: Proven experience – 7+ years of experience in content creation and management and/or in the digital media space. Self-starter with a creative mindset and proven ability as a storyteller who has produced visual and audio content that connects with targeted audiences. Experience using marketing software tools including Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, Canva, etc. Excellent video, writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to adapt content to different formats and platforms. Demonstrated experience in creating content for social media and other digital channels for audience engagement. Strong people management skills to manage and develop staff and work effectively across departments and skill sets. Strong project management skills, capable of juggling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines. Strong work ethic with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage concurrent assignments under tight deadlines. Adept at working independently. Willing to do whatever is required to support the team. Sensitivity to diverse cultures and communities; demonstrated ability to work well with diverse populations; can effectively bring in allies across diverse communitie Transparency and integrity in all actions, demonstration of good judgment and keen instincts, strong team player able to work with individuals at all levels of the organization Positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. A commitment to SHP's vision and values. Performs other duties as required. ( SHP follows a strict internal rubric to help guide salary placement and ensure equitable pay amongst new hires and current staff.
