Construction Manager

Frankfort, IL

The Construction Manager is an experienced project leader and is accountable for overall project implementation activities and is the primary point of contact and the key customer advocate. They are the relationship drivers for their assigned customers. They are passionate, quick paced, and results oriented with a creative and analytical mind and experienced with advanced PM tools and processes. The Construction Manager has the ability to manage critical situations. Responsibilities Development of project scope, budget, schedule Participation in/development of bid walkthroughs, design/stakeholder review meetings, project planning, and includes EHS reviews Move projects through the capex approval process Maintain project involvement starting in the engineering phase of the project Participating in project review meetings, provide feedback on constructability and overall project plan Provide Construction Management support for other project engineers, mostly larger projects Work with Pilot project engineers on project construction plan development and execution Facilitate the safe work permit process Manage contractors to ensure the construction phase stays on scope/schedule/budget Provide on-site support during construction and project start-up, includes commissioning and PSSR activities Coordinate project activities with site Production/EHS/Maintenance Report on weekly/biweekly project status Build and maintain client relationships while acting as the primary client point of contact for the project Create and maintain construction schedules based on construction progress Receive engineering documents and assemble and issue bid packages Perform bid evaluations During construction, review and evaluate engineering change order requests Manage Request for details (RFI) Perform shop visits to inspect components and equipment Schedule, conduct and document pre-bid meetings with contractors Ensure contractor safety meetings are being held Ensure the audit of the construction site to assure OSHA and client safety rules are being followed Ensure client safe work permit procedures are being followed Ensure the quality of installation versus specifications and drawings Track construction progress and approve contractor progress payment requests Ensure quality construction standards and the use of proper construction techniques Manages construction support and may participate in startup and commissioning efforts Interfaces with construction contractors to assure coordination and good constructability Interfaces with project management and design disciplines to assure good constructability Interfaces with client as primary point of contact for project construction execution Interfaces with project management and design disciplines to resolve field issues encountered during construction Participates in interactive planning sessions to ensure scope, schedule, costs and quality are aligned to project objectives Meet with the client to assess, define and clarify the qualifications of each project Ensure that client standards and preferences are met while managing client expectations Draft and negotiate construction related agreements, covenants, or official correspondence on behalf of the organization Develop and present organization projects, capital and operating expense budgets and identify cost reduction opportunities for analysis and implementation Identifying and mitigate project risks Lead interactive planning sessions to establish the alignment of scope and quality Utilizes ability to ensure contractor work is correct, safe, and meets the intent of the drawings Responsible for overall field operations of a project from the standpoint of safety, quality control, scheduling, contracts, conformances to drawings, specifications, and customer relations Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources Review and approve time cards, project logs, and other field paperwork Perform quantity take-offs, solicit and analyze quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, and complete estimates and bids Regularly update project forecast, manage the project staff to achieve project objectives, and provide direction to the project team; e.g. disciplines, project engineers, project controls Schedule, manage and document regular team meetings and be the primary point of contact for the project team and client Responsible for ensuring positive team environment and facilitating conflict resolution Utilize standard forms and reports to document project activities Ensure that all project details is appropriately distributed, documented and saved Monitor the progress of the project; regularly review and analyze the project scope Coordinate internal resources as well as external resources Qualifications Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in an engineering discipline, preferred 10-fifteen years of prior industry background required Refinery background preferred Industrial manufacturing background required Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills Technical aptitude and displayed ability to grasp a general knowledge of multiple disciplines and technologies Current knowledge of OHSA safety rules Strong understanding of construction techniques for various engineering disciplines along with structural engineering concepts and principles Background with capital projects regarding to heavy industrial/ chemical process equipment Willing and able to travel, extensively, based on the project location(s) Able to navigate the job site and construction zones Strong competencies in planning, construction management, leadership, and organization Ability to produce and present clear, concise, and professionally written communications and presentations Strong analytical capabilities Ability to lead and facilitate multiple activities and resources Demonstrated work ethic, integrity, and professional conduct Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks Positive conflict resolution and decision-making skills BSI Core Values Ethical – you operate in a professional manner and follow good moral standards Honest – you are trustworthy and truthful Respectful – you treat others with respect regardless of their position or your own Service – you have a serving mindset and look for ways to help (both clients and coworkers) Positive Attitude – you look for the best qualities in those with whom you work, that you take on challenges willingly, and approach issues and communications in a positive way Accountable – you can be counted on by others and you take ownership of your responsibilities Continuous Learning – you are willing to take the time to learn new skills Takes Initiative – you look for opportunities to do more Cooperative – you have the ability to get along with others and help them succeed Stewardship – you are good steward of company and client finances Safety – you are expected to protect yourself and others.
