Estimator - General Contractor with Hard Bid and Design Build Commercial and Federal Construction Background Hernandez Consulting & Construction, an Employee Owned ESOP, is looking for motivated and energetic Estimator to join its expanding team supporting Commercial & Federal construction projects. The perfect applicant should be a proactive self-starter with a proven expertise to operate independently and efficiently, while also engaging closely with Operations Project Teams, Subcontractors, and Client/Owners. We are looking for an Estimator to use their background and expertise to lead Hard Bid and Negotiated Proposal efforts. They are also expected to contribute to Corporate. They will report to the Chief Estimator. Needed Experiences Includes, But Are Not Limited To: Background working at a general contractor as a project estimator. Combinedbackground with 2 or more of the following types of projects: Federal, Commercial, Aviation, Healthcare, Multi-Family and/or University. Background with design-build, negotiated privatized, Construction Management at-Risk (CMAR), and competitive public hard bid projects. Expertise, focus and drive to maintain bid/estimate deadlines Scheduling, budget/cost control, cultivating client relationships, technical skills, and people skills are also required. Applicant must demonstrate success in managing the bid process and estimating support staff. Conceptual (ROM) estimating for all facets of the projects, i.e., Arch, MEP and Civil aspects. Work with internal design teammates to help review & analyze ongoing design, confirming cost and scope is consistent with SD docs Possess a strong practical field knowledge background Capable of developing value engineering (VE) costs savings ideas, while maintaining design integrity and esthetics Be able to think out of the box; Be solution oriented What You Will Be Doing Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of estimate. Effectively determine the bid strategies required for the company to be successful as well as plan, coordinate and supervise large project estimates. Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to a formal quotation. Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of various scopes of work. Support business unit leaders, project managing and estimating team personnel as required. May review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials. Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimates, including current (accurate) details on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, and other sources. Collaborate with our talent laden team Background Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited University in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or a related discipline. 7+ years Estimating background on Commercial and Federal government construction projects. Proven success implementing strategic initiatives. Detail oriented and can manage multiple priorities in a quick paced environment with minimal guidance. Skilled at developing and maintaining relationships with owners, subcontractors, senior leaders and project teams. High degree of initiative, personal responsibility, and integrity. Advanced proficiency in Estimating Software, such as Sage Estimating, Planswift or OS, and MS Project software along with Microsoft office Suite.
