Contracts for regular positions are renewable each June 30th after successful completion of probationary period. (Unless otherwise specified) Summary:Instructors develop course materials, teach courses, provide educational advising and support to students, and mentor new and part time faculty. To facilitate learning, faculty must maintain and update skills by taking advantage of continuing-ed. Instructors must be able to teach at times and locations that meet the needs of students. This position may be required to teach evening, on-line and/or weekend courses as well as traditional daytime courses. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching in all areas of Computer Technologies with a particular focus within Geographical Details Systems (GIS). Responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, developing curriculum courses, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. S/he will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college. Essential Duties/Functions: TeachingPrepare & teach departmental courses to include:• updating course syllabi• maintaining content specific skills• developing learner centered lesson plans• employing teaching strategies & instructional materials for different learning styles • developing appropriate assessment methods• developing new courses as needed• staying current in teaching discipline• seeking professional development opportunities Administration Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities and equipment to include:• maintaining classroom and lab spaces• upkeep and care of equipment as assigned• mentoring new faculty and/or adjunct faculty Student Provide an environment conducive to student success to include:• assisting students to develop strategies for success Institutional Support Support school-wide endeavors to include:• participating in committees & institutional initiatives• comply with school, state, and federal rules and regulations• developing community and industry contacts• recruiting students Demonstrate and model the school’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, details processing, issue solving, responsibility and teamwork. REQUIREMENTS Educational & Certification Requirements:At least 2 –3 years or Bachelor’s Degree in Info Systems, Geographical Info Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related position from a regionally accredited university. Preference will be given to applicants who possess a Master’s Degree from a regionally licensed school in Details Systems, Geographical Info Systems, Computer Science or a closely related position (or an earned Master’s Degree in an unrelated field with at least eighteen graduate hours completed in Info Systems, GIS, or a closely related position from a regionally accredited university). Certification(s): Relevant and current industry recognized certification(s) in the associated discipline, are preferred.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Professional experience:1. Min three years of industry background required.2. Satisfactory completion of teaching credentials for courses assigned.3. Community College teaching or training background wanted, with additional preference given to applicants who possess background with curriculum course development.4. Preference will be given to applicants who possess background in GIS cartography/visualization, photogrammetry, remote sensing, and spatial analysis. The Instructor shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the school particularly its “open door” policy.
