Position Summary: This is a union represented position stationed in East Chicago, Indiana, that provides clerical support to both the NICTD Transit Police Department and the Accounting Department. This position will serve as the full-time Chief Clerk for the Police Department while assisting the Station & Remittance Accountant with tasks including, but not limited to, processing train personnel cash fares. Description: Duties include, but are not limited to: Accounting of train personnel cash fares. Complete and maintain certification for use of the Indiana Data and Communications System (IDACS) and comparable Illinois system. Prepare FBI crime statistic reports. Monitor ELERTS and camera systems. Answer phones and dispatch officers by radio to emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Respond to phone and email requests from the public and employees. Process high-value property and recovered evidence for return to the proper owners. Maintain custody over valuable lost and found items received until arrangements are made for return to owners. Assist with processing crash reports and state citations. Maintain a working knowledge of police department rules, regulations and general orders. Provide administrative support to NICTD officers with ongoing criminal investigations. Maintain working knowledge of social service agencies. Communicate with multiple 911 centers, emergency providers, prosecutors, criminal courts, and jails within the NICTD service area while developing a working knowledge of their districts, jurisdictions, and responsibilities. Enter and review data in Spillman for accuracy and completeness per NIBRS standards. Retrieve and file information on a non-exclusive basis stored in Spillman System. Process requests for records and videos. Other duties as assigned. Schedule: This position reports to the NICTD Transit Police Department in East Chicago, Indiana. The anticipated schedule is Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, with a twenty-minute paid meal time while on duty, scheduled to be consistent with the needs of the police department. The incumbent may be required to work overtime in certain situations. Position Requirements : The following skills are required to be considered for the assignment: High school degree. Must be able to type a minimum of forty (40) words per minute in a standardized keyboarding examination administered by the District. Must provide proof of ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word at a beginner level through an examination administered by the District. Valid driver license with acceptable driving record. Reliable transportation to/from work assignments. G ood interpersonal skills when interacting with supervisors, fellow employees, law enforcement, first responders, and passengers. Pass a post-offer physical examination, including drug and alcohol tests. Mu st be able to fulfill the position’s essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodations. Hired applicants are also subject to on-duty drug and alcohol testing per NICTD policy. As this work involves entrustment with public funds and operation of company vehicles, all offers are subject to satisfactory post-offer driving, credit, and criminal record evaluations. Must provide and maintain satisfactory results from FBI and Indiana State Police criminal history investigations that includes the submission of the candidate's fingerprints for verification purposes. A permanent federal and state record of the Chief Clerk's fingerprint classification will be maintained by the FBI and Indiana State Police. Must maintain the highest degree of confidentiality when accessing local, state, and federal law enforcement databases. Environmental Conditions: Work is primarily indoors. Levels of activity vary from moderate to intense. Stressful situations may occur. Salary and Benefits : Applicants should expect to start at 75% of the full hourly rate, which will increase by 5% steps each year until a full 100% hourly rate is achieved.
