Drives general transportation and special-purpose vehicles, except those that are operated by Hoisting Engineer. Drives sweepers, snowplows, spreaders, chemical applicators and similar equipment to clear streets, airfields, and runways and to spread sand, salt, and other products. Drives garbage and refuse collection trucks on assigned routes and to disposal sites. Inspects vehicles or mechanical equipment for proper operation and checks oil and fluids. Reports extensive mechanical repairs to supervisor to ensure repairs are made in a timely manner. Completes various paperwork including worksheets, repair orders, activity logs, and other forms documenting driving assignments. Conducts safety checks to ensure assigned vehicles and equipment are in proper working order. Operates tow trucks to transport vehicles to auto pounds, relocation sites or repair shops. Shuttles equipment to and from facilities for preventative maintenance work. And other job-related duties as assigned. RELATED DUTIES: Positions at the City's airports communicate with other drivers and control tower personnel while on the airfield. Positions at the City's airports may also be required to lead formations of multiple vehicles as part of snow and ice control operations, ensuring their correct movement and function, and to participate in training of other City drivers in snow and ice control vehicle operation. CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION Location : O'Hare International Airports Days Off: Friday/Saturday; Saturday/Sunday; Sunday/Monday Shift: Hours : 2300 hrs. - 0700 hrs. 0700 hrs. - 1500 hrs. 1500 hrs. - 2300 hrs. CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION Location : Midway Airport Days Off: Friday/Saturday; Saturday/Sunday; Sunday/Monday Shift: Hours : 0600 hrs. - 1400 hrs. 1400 hrs. - 2200 hrs. 2200 hrs. - 0600 hrs. THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a valid State of Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class "A or B" with both a "X" and "P" endorsement and maintained throughout employment.
