Overview Michigan is a key state for the 2024 and all future elections and we want to build infrastructure to create a permanent organizing team across the state to activate young voters both in election years and the off cycle years. We want to empower Michigan’s crucial young voters to take control of their political agency by teaching them about their voting rights and making sure we mobilize as many of them across the state as possible. We will have regional organizers handle 2-3 schools each on 20 campuses across the state to protect and expand the electorate and engage thousands of young people for the 2024 elections and beyond. Bay Area: Saginaw Valley State University, Central Michigan University, Delta College, and U of M Flint. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead organizers will work on key campuses across Michigan to build organizations that engage students, provide value to young people, and prepare systems for key 2024 races. In 2025, the job will be focused on relationship-building and community organizing to build permanent infrastructure for youth organizing within the state. This is not a conventional organizing position. Instead of spending time in a field office making calls, a typical day will require being on campus in person talking to students. You will be required to travel within a region and recruit and manage fellows on each campus. Responsibilities Include: Draft plans for your campus program in the upcoming cycle and assist in shaping the overall vision for the organization in 2024.Recruit, train, and manage a team of paid student fellows and unpaid volunteers who will mobilize their peers and create a movement on campus. Build relationships with a coalition of administrators, student leaders, and student organizations on a campus. Conduct direct voter contact and list-building through high traffic canvassing, relational organizing, and more. Use social media to engage with students and facilitate student’s use of social media to organize their community. Manage fun and engaging events to educate students about the upcoming elections and empower them to organize their peers. All other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: As a successful candidate for this job, you will: Have a passion for inspiring and empowering young people to get involved in the political process.Be eager to talk to as many students as possible (and be comfortable talking to a lot of strangers/potential volunteers). Be scrappy and flexible; able to manage several tasks simultaneously. Be a self-starter, exceptionally well-organized, and have strong time management skills. Have a driver's license and access to a reliable car. Be able to work weekends and irregular hours as required. Be located near one of our regions. Previous organizing experience is not required! Must be able to remain in a stationary position while driving or riding as a passenger in a motor vehicle because extensive statewide travel is necessary.
