Repair, calibrate, and maintain all types of basic clinical technology equipment,devices, instruments, and systems. Inspect, install, and provide preventativemaintenance of general clinical equipment.Job Responsibilities:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorilyperform each essential duty and responsibility.Duties include: Repair, install, maintain, calibrate, and inspect a diverse range oftherapeutic and diagnostic biomedical instrumentation and equipment. Perform preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinicalequipment, devices, and systems. Diagnose and correct system and equipment malfunctions. Maintain documentation on new and rental equipment, inspections, andequipment repairs and failures. Schedule and oversee third-party repair as necessary. Provide technical assistance and instruction on equipment operation andmaintenance to personnel. Perform related duties as assigned.Supervision Received: Individual will work under close supervision of the Senior Manager, BiomedicalServices or other assigned manager.Working Relationships:Individual will maintain good personal relationships with fellow workers, nursingand medical staff, vendors, manufacturers, and the general public. Will beexpected to participate in meetings, seminars, training, workshops, andconferences as required. May coordinate and deliver technical in-service educationsessions to users as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the knowledge,skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training, and/or workexperience required. Perform preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinicalequipment, devices, and systems. Diagnose and correct system and equipment malfunctions. Maintain documentation on new and rental equipment, inspections, andequipment repairs and failures. Schedule and oversee third-party repair as necessary. Provide technical assistance and instruction on equipment operation andmaintenance to personnel.Education/Experience:A Bachelor’s degree in biomedical equipment technology and two or more yearsexperience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment in a hospitalsetting is highly desirable. A CBET certificate is a plus. An equivalent combinationof education and experience may be considered.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of department policies, procedures, and standards, as well asgeneral applications such as e-mail, database management, spreadsheet,and word processing software. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment; to push/pull equipment carts;and to kneel, stand, bend, and reach during equipment repair. Knowledge of electronic theory, technology, and test equipment. Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology as applied to use of biomedicalequipment. Knowledge of color code conventions used in component and wiringmarking. Ability to analyze, repair, and test electronic and electromechanicalequipment. Ability to perform preventive maintenance inspections. Ability to run diagnostic programs. Ability to comprehend instructions and effectively communicate. Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs, calibration and tests. Ability to travel within a defined territory. Skill in testing electronic equipment. Skill in manual dexterity, hand-to-eye coordination, and color vision.Working Conditions: Generally good working conditions. Possible hazards include exposure to electricalshock, ionizing radiation, chemicals and chemical fumes, high-pressure air,infectious disease, and various other hazards associated with biomedicalengineering work.
