The Department Manager is an experienced discipline leader and is accountable for discipline specific project implementation activities. The Department Manager is passionate, high energy, and results oriented with a creative and analytical mind and is experienced with advanced leadership tools and processes and has the ability to manage critical situations.As a Department Manager, you are relied upon to execute and coordinate discipline projects with efficiency and cost effectiveness and resource allocation. Required to guide the engineers and designers on performing various tasks. Responsibilities Build and maintain client relationships and act as the primary client point of contact for the project Meet with the client to assess, define and clarify the requirements of each project Develops and writes single discipline proposals and the scope and budget associated Participates in interactive planning sessions to ensure scope, schedule, costs and quality are aligned to project objective Communicate resource/staffing need to Engineering Manager Assist Engineering Manager with writing and development of job descriptions Delegate work and supervise engineers and designers on a project for discipline Ensure checking, quality and technical accuracy of project deliverables for entire discipline Establish and manage discipline's engineering schedule and budget objectives on assigned projects Estimate, plan and communicate staff requirements for assigned projects Provide clear direction to discipline team of project scope, schedule, budget and expectations of quality Assigns appropriate resources to projects based on skill set, experience, and availability Ensure departmental employees are meeting project commitments Strive to ensure a balanced workload throughout the department and verify accuracy of departmental forecast Strives to achieve the targeted billability goal for department Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the project Regularly update project forecast, manage the project staff to achieve project objectives, and provide direction to department Ensure that all relevant SOPs are followed on projects Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates the resources Review and approve departmental time and expenses Responsible for the overall and weekly updates to department forecast Generate and communicate change order for identified scope change for discipline Makes decisions for their discipline in a timely fashion and communicates to the team Communicates/verifies client standards and preferences are included in the design documents Schedule, manage and document regular team meetings Responsible for ensuring positive team environment and facilitating conflict resolution Creates and manages schedule, ensure that the project deliverables are on time Support business development; participates in sales presentations Provides regular updates of individual marketing resume Represents BSI at conferences or other outside functions in a professional manner Provides timely peer feedback to formal performance reviews Mentor and develop specific training sessions for others Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Engineering 12+ years of experience in the automation industry PE optional Prior leadership experience required Ability to effectively lead Engineers Able to manage teams or work independently to solve problems and create new opportunities Provides technical support and assistance throughout the department Ability to produce and lead others to produce quality deliverables on time and within budget Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills Drives for results by setting high standards and monitors department progress toward goals Strong competencies in planning, project management, leadership, and organization Ability to produce and present clear, concise, and professionally written communications and presentations Strong analytical capabilities Ability to lead and facilitate multiple activities and resources Demonstrated work ethic, integrity, and professional conduct BSI Core Values Ethical - you operate in a professional manner and follow good moral standards Honest - you are trustworthy and truthful Respectful - you treat others with respect regardless of their position or your own Service - you have a serving mindset and look for ways to help (both clients and coworkers) Positive Attitude - you look for the best qualities in those with whom you work, that you take on challenges willingly, and approach issues and communications in a positive way Accountable - you can be counted on by others and you take ownership of your responsibilities Continuous Learning - you are willing to take the time to learn new skills Takes Initiative - you look for opportunities to do more Cooperative - you have the ability to get along with others and help them succeed Stewardship - you are good steward of company and client finances Safety - you are expected to protect yourself and others.
