JOB DESCRIPTION FOR AN AUTO TECH INSTRUCTOR: This position is Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The contract year is 190 days. Instruction will be in-person, virtual, or a combination. This position may require travel. The Certified Vocational Teacher is responsible for instructing youth and adults in vocational education programs, developing curriculum, maintaining classroom records, writing progress reports, and presentations, attending workshops and conferences, and networking with businesses statewide. The automotive service teacher will teach students from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, nationalities, genders, ages, religions, and disabilities Online and in the lab. The instructor will use a variety of teaching methods such as lectures and demonstrations, field trips, audiovisual and technological aids, and other supplemental materials. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN AUTO TECH INSTRUCTOR: Instruct students in classroom, online, and laboratory setting Develop and provide individual instruction as required and arrange field trips and guest lectures. Evaluate student performance by grading classroom work, observing laboratory skills, and counseling students on educational programs. Maintain classroom records, including attendance records, student competency files, progress reports, and completer follow-ups. Develop or revise vocational education curriculum by researching educational and professional material, reviewing and selecting textbooks, developing course outlines and objectives, and preparing lesson plans. Instruct students in the importance of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness, and good work habits. Keep abreast of job vacancies, and employment trends, and participate in student recruitment. Ensure training goals, objectives, and curriculum align with current business standards and practices. Collaborate with school districts and educational cooperatives to ensure students get maximum credit. Develop partnerships with employers. Instruct students in subject areas, maintenance, and safe operation of tools and equipment, codes, or regulations related to the program. Attend various workshops and conferences. Perform other duties as assigned. Limited travel may be required. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS OF THE AGRI INSTRUCTOR: Ability to develop effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, students, and the public. Knowledge of the functions, operations, and/or maintenance of the various equipment used in the program taught. Knowledge of instructional theory, basic education principles, practices and methodologies, the developmental process, competency-based curricula, and general classroom and lab practices. Ability to collect and organize data and information. Knowledge of modern office procedures, including Zoom, Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to establish and maintain an appropriate level of authority, as well as create an atmosphere of support and confidence for students. Ability to communicate with high school students, young adults, and older students effectively. Ability to evaluate student performance and measure progress. Ability to develop or revise vocational education curriculum. Ability to prepare lesson plans and instructional aides. Ability to make written and oral presentations. Ability to deal effectively with stress caused by workload, deadlines, and situations as they occur. Familiar with any/all accreditation standards for the program. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN AUTO TECH INSTRUCTOR: Two years of experience in the vocational area taught Career and Tech Ed. endorsed as an instructor (568) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN AUTO TECH INSTRUCTOR: Must hold, or be qualified to obtain upon hire, a teaching certificate or vocational teaching permit by the Department of Education in the area taught, in accordance with ACA 6-17-401, 6-17-402, and 6-17-403.
