Position Announcement: Adult Education Instructor Northeastern Junior College is seeking qualified educators to join the Adult and Community Education (ACE) center team. The Adult Education Instructor is responsible for teaching all levels of Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL). The Adult Education Instructor will prepare adult learners to increase their basic academic skills, pass High School Equivalency tests (such as GED) and prepare adult learners for citizenship through civics education, and increase their employability through soft skill instruction and workplace/workforce tailored lesson plans. The Adult Education Instructor will report to the Yuma Campus Director and will be supported through professional develop by the Adult and Community Education center. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be: Instruct students in Adult Basic and Secondary Education covering the core subject areas of the GED tests: language arts, math, social studies, and science. Infuse basic computer skills and digital literacy throughout lesson plans. Teach engaging and learner-centered group ESL classes, which include job skills/workforce curriculum and English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education and integrate civics education into the curriculum. Facilitate the assessment and placement of students into appropriate classes each semester in collaboration with the AEFLA Program Director. Prepare lesson plans utilizing approved lesson plan template, demonstrate clear understanding and connection to College and Career Readiness Standards and the English Language Proficiency Standards and incorporate instructional materials utilizing various instruction methods. Use assessment profiles to tailor lesson plans. What You Will Need: Proficient in the use of technology including computers, tablets, and Microsoft Office Bilingual in English and Spanish. Minimum of two years' experience teaching with educational standards and adult learning. What We Require: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. This position requires nontraditional hours including teaching evening classes and/or weekend classes. Excellent organizational skills Willingness to obtain the Adult Basic Education Authorization (ABEA) within three years of employment. What We Can Offer: This is a part time (221 days) professional appointment. Annual salary is $33,500-$36,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
