Plum Educational Substitute Teacher Placement provides high quality substitute teachers to charter schools in the Chicago area. Visit www.plumedu.org to be considered for employmentPosition Title: Substitute Teacher Location: ChicagoPosition Summary:The Substitute Teacher is expected to travel to schools in a timely manner, carry out the instructions of the absent teacher, and foster a positive classroom environment in order to maximize instructional time. All substitutes are expected to be prompt and reliable, and conduct themselves professionally at all times. Substitute teachers are independent contractors of Plum Educational Substitute Teacher Placement and hired on an "at will" basis. Qualifications: * At least 2 years of teaching and/or substitute teaching experience* 60 completed college credit hours or higher* Strong classroom management skills and the ability to foster a safe and productive learning environment* The ability to establish professional working relationships with students and staff* Excellent promptness and time management skillsEssential Functions:* Carry out lesson plan instructions from the classroom teacher, and/or create lesson plans in absence of a prepared lesson; ensure all material is covered* Create and maintain a discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and productive learning environment in accordance with school policies*Create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students* Communicate daily outcomes to classroom teacher through substitute log* Respond and report to "call-ins" in a timely manner * Maintain professional appearance that adheres to school policiesUpon Employment:* Successfully pass a criminal background investigation* Successfully pass a physical examination and TB skin test* Provide (2) letters of reference, ideally from a former principal or supervisor
