The Corporation’s objective is to provide superior products and technology for the needs of the customers, drawing on the knowledge and ability gained from serving the markets worldwide for over 50yrs.LOCATION: Newark, NJDESCRIPTION: The Production Supervisor is responsible for utilizing the available manpower in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement to produce products safely, at the lowest possible cost, with the highest possible yield, and with acceptable quality in accordance with all mandated regulatory and quality qualifications.The person in this position must also monitor the operation of the plant boiler(s), from the control room, to ensure safe operation and maintain the boiler records.The successful candidate for this position will have the following attributes:1. Will work whatever shift assigned by management as necessary to support the operation of the plant.2. Able to think logically and take independent action to solve potentially critical production problems without supervisory assistance. This includes, but is not limited to, knowing when a problem needs to be taken to the next level or when cross functional collaboration is required.3. Able to maintain discipline among plant personnel through the fair and firm application of Company’s policies, procedures and management directives. This includes the use of the progressive discipline system when necessary in order to meet labor productivity goals.4. Is cost conscious, using the most economical solutions to solve problems.5. Pursues and maintains all necessary boiler experience required by the position.PERFORMANCE MEASURES:1. Batch card procedures are closely followed.2. Ensures that all documentation, especially batch card entry and boiler logs, is completed accurately.3. Ensures that production schedules are met on a regular basis.4. Maintains effective Labor Relations environment and promotes a Standard of Conduct.5. Regularly ensures that all safety, quality and regulatory qualifications are satisfied.6. Identifies ways to continuously improve manufacturing, productivity & quality yields.7. Boilers are operated safely and at peak efficiency in accordance with policy and NJS regulations.SUPPORTED BY:Operations, Maintenance, Quality Control and Process Engineering.SPECIFIC DUTIES:1. Supervise the daily activities of hourly work force in various buildings ensuring proper utilization of equipment and staff.2. Communicate with the production scheduler on a daily basis to implement the weekly production schedule.3. Communicate on a daily basis with the receiving department to ensure the raw material needed for production in various building are available on time for production.4. Daily review and approval of TC1 in order to ensure the accuracy of the time, department number and classification.5. Communicate daily with the QC labs to ensure that the in-process and finished goods testing meet the standard specification.6. Attend the daily production meeting and report all production and maintenance issues.7. Communicate and document any equipment problem through the work order system.8. Investigate and suggest solutions for processing problems including yield and/or quality issues, repeated equipment breakdown, customer complaints, minor or lost time accident, effluent excursion and chemical spills.9. Supervise the proper labeling and handling of hazardous waste material.10. Ensure the raw material needed for succeeding shifts is available for use during that shift.11. Ensure the following details is recorded daily:a. batch cardsb. boiler log booksc. shift status reportd. transfer and drumming sheetse. lock out/tag out if anyf. hot work permitg. production completion log12. Supervise the effluent operation, ensuring compliance with PVSC regulation.13. Supervise the reception of the bulk shipment, ensuring the availability of tank-space as well as verifying correct material is charged or pumped to the proper tank.14. Ensure proper housekeeping in each production area.15. Ensure the compliance with the following regulations:a. OSHAb. DPCCc. environmentald. ISO 9000e. ISO 14000f. labeling as per DOT16. Initiate actions by interpreting labor management agreement to promote, transfer, discharge, or discipline employees. Handle 1st step grievances.17. Carry out the inventory as needed for the purpose of cycle counts.18. Ensure that all partial containers of a product from previous batches are blended into new produced material.19. Operate boiler as required. Must earn and maintain a blue seal boiler license.20. Input batch card info in an accurate and timely manner so the processing of various products is accurately documented.21. Review performance of hourly production staff and take corrective action if necessary.22. Ensure the production schedule in each production building is met on a regular basis.23. Enforce the company’s safety program.24. Hold the monthly safety meeting and submit the report on time.25. Enforce the energy conservation plant ensuring the following equipment are shut down when they are not in use:a. agitatorsb. pumpsc. chillersd. air compressorse. cooling tower fans and pumpsf. lights26. Communicate with the payroll department regarding any dispute for rate, classification, or time of the union personnel.27. Train production personnel for new equipment, procedure or any SOP change and document the training using the ISO documentation record.28. Perform special projects or other duties as assigned.AUTHORITY:• Authorize overtime as required to maintain the production work schedule• Accept or reject job candidates as recruited by HR• Initiate disciplinary action against operators when necessary• Initiate maintenance work orders• Authorize production interruption and/or shutdown of equipment and processes when required due to unusual events, boiler problems or emergency conditions• Authorize changes to a batch card• Contact PVSC for reporting of any extra-permit excursions• Request raw materials or finished goods through use of the Product Movement Form• Direct Maintenance personnel during the off-hours and weekendsBACKGROUND: 3 to 5 yrs of chemical plant production supervisory background, within a union environment, is required. Possession of a current New Jersey Boiler Seal strongly preferred.SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:Must be able to wear and use respirator.ADA ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:Duties 1 through twenty eight.SUPERVISION GIVEN AND RECEIVED:Responsible for supervising all union personnel in the plant. May supervise up to thirty hourly employees on a shift. Night shift supervisors are the senior management on site during those shifts.
