Summary of Responsibilities: The Physician Advisor is a part-time physician who provides clinical support to the medical management team to ensure that utilization and case management activities are performed in accordance with the highest and most current clinical standards. The Physician Advisor is responsible to review cases and evaluate the medical necessity and appropriateness of the requested treatment of service. This position also provides clinical consultation to the Care and Case Management staff to support the various utilization management activities performed within Healthcare Management Services (HMS).The Physician Advisor agrees to comply with accreditation and regulatory standards, including but not limited to NCQA, Pennsylvania Department of Health, URAC, CMS and Highmark corporate and medical policies. Required Qualifications:* MD or DO with an unrestricted PA medical license. * Board certified in an American Board of Medical Specialties or Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists recognized specialty.* Must be credentialed in the KHPW or Highmark Blue Shield network. * Five years experience required in an active clinical practice.Preferred Qualifications:* It is desirable that this person maintains some level of active clinical practice. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills* Well-developed interpersonal skills
