Optics Engineer Location: Grand Rapids, MI Our client in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking to add an Optics Engineer to their staff. Principal role is to develop optical prescriptions for signal marking and illuminating devices. Assignments include the following: • Provide optical designs of automotive lamps including lens/reflector/light systems. • Maintain knowledge of all current Federal, SAE, International and customer regulations. • Work with new lighting technologies including understanding, developing and applying this technology in lighting systems. • Provide retro-reflector design and development. • Interface with customers from the feasibility stages through service of a program. • Identify and records concerns relating to product, process, or quality systems. • Recommend photo-metric testing procedures and equipment to the lab testing engineer. • Provide optic prescription verification and drawing sign-off. • Perform duties in an environmentally responsible manner. • Have awareness of own role and responsibility with respect to the environment, and emergency preparedness and response. • Respond to environmental incidents to the extent of training and insofar as can do so safely. • Report environmental incidents immediately to supervisor of the affected area. • Have awareness of the importance of conformance with environmental policies, procedures, and with the qualifications of the EMS. • Have awareness of the significant environmental aspects of own work activities and the benefits of improved personal performance. • Understand the effect on the environment of departing from specified operating procedures (work practices) and the potential legal consequences to the employee and the facility. Qualifications: • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or expertise required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the required functions. • Language Skills: • Expertise to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, financial reports, government regulations and legal documents. Expertise to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from customers, associates, or managers. Expertise to write technical documents. Expertise to effectively present details to management groups and customers. • Computer skills: • Class room training or on-the-job-training in basic computer programming (Basic, Fortran, C++, Lucid Shape, ASAP) • Education and Background: • Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or optics. • Background in optical design or automotive lighting engineering.
