Description of Services:The Operating Room (OR) Clinical Nurse shall plan, direct, and coordinate activities of the Operating RoomDepartment in a Hospital setting.Basic Tasks: Duties required by the Operating Room Nurse are as follows, but not limited to:• Provides professional nursing care to patients undergoing surgery.• Prepares and maintains operating room for all multi-service surgical procedures.• Establishes and utilizes a checklist to monitor the physical plan of the operating room and equipment for conformity to all national standards for ensuring safety for the patient and all personnel.• Provides perioperative nursing care, for all types of patients admitted to the surgical suite for surgical intervention including elective, urgent and emergency procedures on patients of all ages.• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for all patients including newborns, children, adolescents, adults and the elderly; disabled to include visually and hearing impaired; and individuals of varying ethnic and religious backgrounds to include those who do not speak or understand English.• Has knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required.• Administers medications, electrolytes, fluids, blood, and blood products.• Safely operates and monitors specialized therapeutic and resuscitative equipment.• Skilled in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers, and other unit specific equipment.• Shall accurately and effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.• Schedule patients for procedures occurring in the main operating room using an electronic patient scheduler. • May occasionally be asked to assist the physician with endoscopy to include patient preparation, collection of tissue, PH testing of fluid, passing endoscopic instruments to the Endoscopist and patient recovery.Educational and Skills Requirements:Education and Licenses:• Registered Nurse (RN) must have achieved at minimum an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma Degree in Nursing from a Nationally Accredited Nursing ProgramExperience:• RN must have 12 months of Operating Room clinical experience within the last 36 months.• Experience must include all phases of a multi-service ambulatory surgical center or hospital operating room. Documentation of formal operating room surgical nurse training is required; a verification letter or certificate from the institution of training is accepted able.Certifications & Health: • RN shall have and provide a signed current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) (AHA)• Must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (AHA)• Must have Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (AHA) • RN shall have an unencumbered active, valid unrestricted, current nursing license (with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions,.• Must provide immunization records showing proof of immunization against Hepatitis A and B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Influenza. • Must also provide proof of negative TB skin test taken within the past 12 months.
