A licensed practical nurse (LPN), also known as licensed vocational nurse (LVN), cares for the sick, injured, convalescent and disabled under the direction of physicians and registered nurses. They provide basic nursing care, including monitoring vital signs and observing patients to report adverse reactions to medications or treatments. An LPN collects samples for testing, performs routine laboratory tests, feeds patients, and assists with bathing and personal hygiene. LPNs provide the patient care on a very personal level and prepare or perform several procedures for instance dressing wounds.
