The incumbent will execute daily work assignments and ensure timely completion of all scheduled and unscheduled events for laboratory process instrumentation, hygienic and non-hygienic utility systems equipment and controls, and analytical laboratory instruments. Utilizing an in-depth knowledge of precision measurement science (Metrology), mathematics, physics, and electronics, the Engineering Technician will complete a wide range of tasks, with significant focus on performing complex assignments under limited supervision where keen judgment is required in resolving problems and making routine recommendations. The individual in this role will collect, compile, measure, summarize, and record data collected during scheduled calibration and/or unscheduled work requests and document electronically within a validated database. This position will also provide hands-on technical training to department personnel on correct and accurate methods for testing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repair of instrumentation and controls. The duties include operation of the Facilitys HVAC/BMS, industrial and pure water systems, boilers, compressed air systems, UPS systems, emergency generators, process gas systems, heat transfer skids, , and other equipment in the facility. Preventative and corrective maintenance on the facilities mechanical systems, installation of new equipment and general plumbing, electrical and painting/carpentry work, as well as, other duties as assigned. This position will work in conjunction with Facilities, Engineering, Validation, Research, and Quality Control Laboratory Departments to help the company and all of its personnel to reach their goals in providing a safe, clean, and efficient environment. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Provide a leading role in the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of automatic, mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic equipment, instrumentation and control systems used for measuring, indicating, monitoring, recording, or controlling process parameters.Identify and correct measurement errors.Replace instrumentation and controls as needed.Maintain configuration management to ensure compliance of qualified systems.Redline drawings (including electrical), engineering documentation and other technical specifications.Provide input and support for the design, installation, and upgrade of instrumentation and control systems.Execute complex assignments to support Metrology, Facilities, and/or Engineering Projects2. Coordinate daily assignments among shift personnel and outside departments to ensure compliance with the predetermined monthly calibration schedule.3. Field emergency and high-priority unscheduled work requests from outside departments for immediate Metrology response and resolution.4. Perform routine calibration of instrumentation, on a predetermined schedule, within the following disciplines: Analytic, Conductivity, DC & Low Frequency Electromagnetic, Flow, Level, Mechanical, Optical, pH, Pressure, Temperature, Time, Speed, and Weight.5. Identify Out of Tolerance (OOT) conditions and perform corrective actions to return the device to within specification. Assess and document the potential impact that the OOT condition may have had on the instrumentation and process.6. Perform daily walk-throughs and readings of all utility and mechanical room equipment, documenting parameters and problems as they occur.7. Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance work orders on facilities, HVAC, utility systems, water filtration, laboratory equipment, mechanical, as per schedule. Document all work in accordance with cGXP requirements and Company SOPs.8. Monitor building management system, including room environmental conditions and critical/non-critical alarms. Report and troubleshoot alarms as required.9. Maintain secondary and/or working standards and tools, perform verification prior to and upon return from vender certification.10. Provide occasional on-site management of contractors and work with them on preventive, corrective and emergency work orders, ensuring all Company documentation and safety procedures are adhered to.11. Troubleshoot and assist supervision as required on resolving equipment malfunctions, alarms, investigations, and change controls (if applicable).12. Recognize and report hazardous conditions, take appropriate work place safety measures and follow all OSHA and Company Environmental, Health and Safety procedures.13. 24 hour emergency response. Provide emergency response as needed and mandatory on-call support on a rotating basis. EXPERIENCE: A min of ten years combined education and relevant hands-on Metrology / technical experience is required. Experience working within a Biopharmaceutical Facility or equivalent is preferred.SKILLS: 1. Extensive knowledge of instrumentation, PLCs, and single loop controls within the following disciplines: Analytic, Conductivity, DC and Low Frequency Electromagnetic, Flow, Level, Mechanical, Optical, pH, Pressure, Temperature, Time, Speed, and Weight.2. Strong background in electrical / electronic theory and application, including the ability to read and understand Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and electrical diagrams.3. Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of equipment operation.4. Must possess good organizational, communication and time management skills.5. Must possess a strong attention to detail, be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures, Calibration Procedures, and work instructions.6. Must be a self motivator that is able to work both independently and as part of a team, and under minimal supervision; must be able to lead a team of less experienced technicians on a daily basis.7. Must strictly adhere to all Health, Safety and environmental policies and procedures.8. Just be able to perform general math and algebra functions and have a basic understanding of statistics.9. Must meet physical requirements of the job as follows:Must have the ability to lift a min of 80lbs consecutivelyMust have the ability to bend, reach, stretch, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces in order to complete job tasksMust have the ability to stand for long periods of time EDUCATION: Min of High School Diploma with 10 yrs experience; OR Vocational, industrial, trade school or apprentice program experience highly preferred.
