JOB OPENINGS: 3 Firefighter/EMTs The City of Columbus is establishing a list of qualified candidates for Firefighter/EMT for 3 immediate openings. If you are interested in this opportunity or know someone who might be interested, please have them plan on participating in the testing and interview process starting at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Columbus Fire Station (1459 26 Ave.). Applications can be downloaded from the City website, www.Columbusne.us and mailed to Mike Oglevie, or faxed to his attention at 402-563-1380 or emailed to (click to respond). It will be a long day Saturday, especially for the higher scoring applicants. Following the written exams on firefighting and E.M.T. skills for all applicants, the higher scoring applicants will then be asked to participate in the physical agility testing, oral interviews with Columbus Fire Department Command Staff and an evening interview with the Columbus Civil Service Commission. Ninety-five percent of the process for the applicant is completed in 1 day. The City of Columbus application and photocopies of EMT certificates must be received in the H.R. department by Thursday, February 28th in order to be able to sit for the exam on Saturday March second. Include a copy of a DD214 to obtain Veterans credit per state statutes. Other employment related material such as resumes and training records can be sent with the application or brought to the Fire Station on that Saturday, March second. Beginning base rate is $34,588 annually and this figure does not include overtime pay and the $382 a month paramedic pay benefit for those who qualify. The Columbus Fire Department is ALS certified.
