Watts Village Theater Company (WVTC) is casting actors for a workshop of Riot/Rebellion, a new play in development inspired by the events of the 1965 Watts Uprising.Riot/Rebellion:Using the joint-stock method, the WVTC team interviewed witnesses of the 1965 Uprising and commissioned playwright Donald Jolly to use the stories as a springboard to develop a script which will ultimately be performed in the intersection where the Uprising took place on 116th & Avalon in South LA next summer. This series of workshops is designed to assist the playwright and the artistic team in the development of that script.Workshop dates are TBD and will occur monthly from December 2012 – March 2013.Breakdown:• Female, Black, 40s-50s• Female, Black, 20s• Female, Ethnically Ambiguous, 20s• Male, Black, 18-25• Male, Latino, 30s• Male, Ethnically Ambiguous, 30s• Female, Latina, 50s-60s• Female, Native-American, 50s-60s• Female, Black, 20s-30s, must be able to singAll actors must be comfortable with casting across race, gender, age and sexual orientation. Actors must also be comfortable with strong physicality and explicit/politically incorrect language. This is a workshop so characters will be developed during the course of the workshop activities which will include acting exercises, improvs, scene readings, and character work.
