L&M Radiator, Inc. is a global designer, manufacturer, and distributor or MESABI cooling and heat transfer solutions that are custom-made for heavy equipment in the mining, oil, gas, construction and heavy industrial industries. We are looking for an Application Engineering Intern who will be responsible for designing and offering technical assistance for customized products. Manage multiple projects, designs, and layouts effectively and efficiently. Work on assigned projects and calculations per manager direction. Report directly to the Application Engineering Manager daily on project updates and status. Give project presentations, when needed, to internal and external sources. How will you make a difference? As a member of the Application Engineering Team, you will have opportunities to work with multiple application engineers on various projects, calculate related formulas needed for customer data, record data and maintain documentation. You will work with SolidWorks software on new designs and existing products while interacting with design team on concepts and design functionality.Application Engineering is looking for a rounded individual with mechanical engineering abilities that likes solving complex and intricate problems and engaging in world solutions. The right applicant will be detail-oriented with strong interpersonal skills while having the ability to multi-task with good time management skills. Applicants should demonstrate maturity, intelligence, cooperation, and discretion. Our organization values those with strong work initiative, passion for the job and those that have a team centered mindset! What do we want to know about you? Associate degree in engineering. In school for BS in mechanical or manufacturing engineering or similar field. What will your typical day look like? Work with Application Engineering department on various projects. Calculate related formulas, record data, and maintain spreadsheet of findings. Perform production line work on products to verify engineering concepts and design functions. Drafting work using SolidWorks drawing new and existing products. Liaison between engineering and production, solving design and production issues. Interact with R&D Engineering on new and exciting battery cooling technology. Assist R&D Department with the following: Air flow testing with a matrix of fan to radiator core distances, different fan ring inlet conditions and varying air flow restriction using various fan simulations. Assist with internal cost reduction effort. Improve airflow to lower radiator core cost. Take air velocity, measurements, summarizing and presenting data in report format as well as reconfiguring the test equipment. Assist with reducing noise testing to create quiet radiator. Test measurements and report findings. Attend and participate in daily department meetings. Handle confidential and proprietary information. Assist in other areas of Application Engineering and/or production as needed. Perform work in a safe manner and follow all safety guidelines/procedures. Perform related work as required by supervisor. What about the physical demands of the job? Ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to stand for long periods of time in various environments. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required for Entry Level: Regular and reliable attendance. Strong mechanical aptitude required, detail orientated, and strong initiative. Knowledgeable of engineer drawings, blueprints and understanding complex technical writing. Must be detailed orientated and have strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate, in English, effectively and clearly by both written and verbal means. Demonstrate maturity, intelligence, cooperation, and discretion. Flexibility to work weekends occasionally, if needed, be self-motivated and a problem solver. Prepare and maintain a variety of related records, spreadsheets and reports using Microsoft Office Products. Work effectively with fellow employees and independently. Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software. Must be able to work on multiple projects at the same time. Dependability under both supervised and unsupervised conditions. Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug, and background test. Wabtec will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the U.S. for this opening.
