Job Description:Reporting to the Director of Counseling Services, the counselor provides mental health services to the student population including psychological assessment, crisis intervention, short term individual, group psychotherapy and referrals to community providers. In addition, the counselor participates in on-going collaboration with other members of the Health and Wellness staff in providing psycho-educational programming and outreach services to the student population. The counselor may also provide consultation to faculty, staff and student leaders as directed by the Director of Counseling Services. This position may require some evening and weekend availability. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide mental health services to the student population and maintain an ongoing clinical caseload using a short-term treatment modelCaseload productivity expectation as set by AUCCCD for direct clinical services to be capped at 65 percent of timeDevelop community mental health initiatives for various student populationsConduct assessments for personal counseling and refer as appropriate to community providers for psychiatric evaluation, medications and/or longer-term treatmentProvide crisis intervention services as part of on-call counselor rotation and as needed.Maintain all pertinent clinical documentation and enter data into the counseling medical recordAttend and participate in weekly individual clinical supervision, weekly group supervision as well as peer supervision (if assigned)Attend and participate in divisional & departmental meetings and retreats. (i.e. weekly staff meeting, staff professional development meeting, monthly department meeting, divisional meetings)Serve as counselor consultant to the Assistance Vice President, Student Support Services for student hospitalization post-discharge planning as assigned. Follow up with students as appropriate.Provide consultation to staff, faculty and student leaders of the Berklee community as assigned by the Director of Counseling ServicesServe on appropriate college-wide committees as requestedMaintain licensure requirements and carry professional liability insuranceOther duties as assigned. Required Skills: Strong psychological assessment, individual and group counseling skills.Ability to engage with multicultural and diverse student populations.Strong consultation and presentation/training skills. Required Experience: Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required.Current Massachusetts licensure (LMHC with any of the following certification REAT, ATR, R-DMT, MT-BC, RDT)Minimum of 3 years of experience providing counseling services, particularly community based interventions designed to provide culturally relevant mental health services.Strong crisis intervention skills and experience in treatment for alcohol/drug use and eating disorders preferred.Knowledge of student development and psychological theories and principles. Experience in college mental health preferred.Familiarity with mental health systems and resources. Knowledge of medical insurance eligibility requirements. Work is performed indoors and primarily in an office setting. The noise level is usually low to moderate. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to travel. SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC. :Some evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required. Counselors may be expected to serve on-call in various capacities, generally within the business work day hours (9-5). As an exempt, salaried employee, availability is required for occasional evening and weekend hours for pre-planned events (e.g., Orientation/Check-in Days, Parent/Family Weekend, Open House Accepted Students, Opening Day, etc.) and unplanned needs (e.g. community outreach, staff availability during campus/student emergencies, etc.).While not prohibited, applicants should carefully consider these expectations before beginning or maintaining a private practice, or accepting/maintaining other part-time employment before accepting an offer of employment at Berklee.
