Job Description: Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. was created 30 years ago in Cincinnati, Ohio, developing innovative devices that have driven the shift from open to minimally invasive surgery that continues to lead the industry today. Our diverse team of engineers, designers, and technical specialists are on the forefront of technology in the medical device industry. The Principal Software Systems Engineer will make vital contributions to the New Product Development (NPD) pipeline and transform patient care through innovation. They are responsible for working with our NPD teams to design and architect product software for use in cutting edge medical devices. Key Responsibilities: * Develop software architecture and requirements for highly complex medical capital modules * Create software interface control specifications for connected electromechanical modules. * Drives the software developer teams to ensure software features are defined and testable and planned accoridng to the Dev Ready Framework. * Manage software system and subsystem requirements including definition, decomposition, analysis, and trace management to ensure clear and unambiguous design specifications. * Design embedded product software to integrate with mechanical, electrical, and distributed computing systems. * Mentor members of the engineering staff to conform to Industry Standards for Medical Device Software (IEC 62304) Education: * Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, or related degree is required; advanced degree preferred Experience and Skills: Required : * Minimum 9 years experience in a New Product Development environment. 10 years in direct software engineering or software architectural role. * A results and performance driven demeanor with strong sense of accountability. * Experience within medical device and external standards such as IEC 62304 * Deep understanding of various embedded/system software design tools, operating systems and programming languages (e.g. Jira, Jama, Linux, QNX, Qt, C/C /C#, JSON-RPC, Python, etc.). * Proven experience with embedded software design is required. * Experience developing embedded software systems in C * Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering languages and tools (e.g. SysML, Cameo, EA) * Demonstrated ability working with system-level tools and processes used for requirements management, risk management, issue tracking, and test automation (e.g. Jira, JAMA) * Strong collaboration, proven technical leadership capabilities, and conflict resolution skills Preferred : * Demonstrated ability working with secure boot and embedded system security development * Experience with Distributed Data Services (DDS), e.g. (RTI Connext, OpenDDS, MQTT, or similar distributed data sharing libraries) * Experience debugging embedded hardware systems Other: * Up to 20% domestic and international travel For more information on how we support the whole health of our employees throughout their wellness, career and life journey, please visit www.careers.jnj.com . The anticipated base pay range for this position is $113,000 to $195,500. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.
