Department Overview As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training best:in:class health care professionals and developing cutting:edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day. The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences is a top:tier department with world:renowned faculty and staff. The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences was originally created within the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine as the Department of Biochemistry in 1918. The department has thrived throughout the years and in 1989 was merged with the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology to form the current department. Our department's name was updated to Molecular and Cellular Biosciences in 2022 to better reflect the research interests of the current faculty. The department has generated a strategic plan with three pillars of research: 1) Structural biology and biochemistry, 2) Microbiology, virology, and immunology, and 3) Cellular signaling, regenerative biology and neuroscience. There is overlap between these pillars amongst department faculty which creates an exciting and innovative environment for one to conduct research. Job Overview The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences invites structural biologists with expertise in single particle Cryo:electron microscopy or cryo:electron tomography, and a research program focused on one of the department's three pillars of research for a tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate rank as part of the University's investment in a state:of:the:art Cryo:EM Facility (The Center for Advanced Structural Biology). This facility has recently come online, and consists of a Talos L120C TEM, Glacios cryo:TEM and Vitrobot. Furthermore, the University of Cincinnati also houses the Center for Advanced Research Computing (ARC), offering services for large:scale data analysis. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience. We cultivate a supportive environment in the department and college that provides career and scientific mentoring. The College supports several opportunities for internal grant awards, grant pre:review, recognition of research excellence, and social and scientific forums over the academic year. The recruit will join an existing core of structural biologists and be expected to secure extramural funds to maintain a vibrant and innovative research program using Cryo:EM methodology. We seek candidates who will address fundamental basic science questions at the molecular level as they relate to human health and will synergize with current faculty and the Department's research pillars.
