Summary The Physicist is responsible for calibration and quality assurance of all radiation therapy equipment; performing calculation and treatment plan dosimetry for patient treatment, verification of patient doses, chart checks and necessary radiation therapy procedures in compliance with the State Regulations for Radiation and Protection. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values. Education/Experience/Licensure Education/Formal Training Work Experience Credential/Licensure REQUIRED: Master's of Science in Medical Physics, Engineering or any other Physical Science. Minimum of three years of experience in clinical medical physics radiation oncology. Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or must be board eligible in Therapeutic Radiological Physics from the American Board of Radiology PREFERRED: Ph. D preferred N/A N/A SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED: N/A Completion of an accredited residency program can be counted as experience N/A Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Knowledge of medical physics.:Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials, such as technical reports and manuals.:Ability to communicate verbally with Associates, physicians and patients.:Ability to work with a minimum of direct supervision.:Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects. Key Job Responsibilities:Oversees the preparation of computerized treatment plans and the calculations of patient doses with regards to the age specific populations including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.:Develops and maintains a quality assurance program for all Radiation Therapy treatment modalities.:Assures accuracy of patients treatment unit parameters.:Assists with intracavitary and interstitial radioactive implant procedures.:Directs the construction of patient contours, shielding blocks, electron cut:outs and immobilization molds and masks.:Assists in development and administration of the Radiation Safety Program.:Provides continuing education to radiation therapy staff and students.:Assists with calibration of diagnostic radiology equipment.:Performs other job functions as assigned or requested. Physical Requirements:The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.:Must have good balance and coordination.:The physical requirements of this position are: medium work : exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.:The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.:Frequent non:invasive patient contact.:Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.:Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
