A PhD in Aquaculture or related field. Certain positions within this class require individuals to meet specific federal or state regulations as identified by the employing agency. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Incumbent must pass a pulmonary function test with medical evaluation, must undergo and pass regular respirator fit:testing, and must wear a respirator when required. Will be subject to the requirements of the proper use of appropriate respirator. Occasional travel. NOTES:Successful applicant must pass a background screening, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment. JOB DUTIES: Monitors work performance of subordinates, including periodic written evaluations and discussions; counseling to develop skills and correct deficiencies; recognizing employee accomplishments; and recommending timely disciplinary actions as needed. Approves timesheets and leave requests. Documents recommendations for special pay increases, reclassifications, and disciplinary actions, when appropriate. Efficiently carries out employee selection actions when vacancies are to be filled. Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner. Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with division and department policies and procedures. Incumbent serves as head of the Aquaculture Section and subject matter expert for aquaculture related questions from industry, which assumes responsibility of the overall supervision of the aquaculture section. Responsible for obtaining and maintaining USDA export certification and prepare the aquaculture section for the audits originating from USDA other accrediting agencies. Responsible for validation of all aquaculture tests offered by the section/bureau and maintains up to date technology for the tests offered. Ensures subordinates comply with federal and state laws and department/division policies and procedures related to personnel matters. Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers/clients, providing excellent veterinary:related technical and medical information, returning all customer phone calls within 24 hours.
