Thomas P. Holland Distinguished Professorship in Nonprofit Management and Leadership Description The School of Social Work invites applications and nominations for the Thomas P. Holland Distinguished Professorship in Nonprofit Management and Leadership. The professorship is named for Dr. Thomas P. Holland, Professor Emeritus, who provided distinguished leadership and service as a member of the University of Georgia faculty for 26 years. His research focused on nonprofit board effectiveness. Dr. Holland was instrumental in the development of the Institute for Nonprofit Organizations (INPO) at the School of Social Work and served as Director. The INPO educates leaders who will strengthen the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations throughout Georgia, the Southeast, the U.S., and globally. The Master's of Nonprofit Management and Leadership program is administered through the INPO. The Professorship The Thomas P. Holland Distinguished Professorship will be filled by an individual with an outstanding scholarly record in research, teaching, and service, with demonstrated impact in nonprofit management, leadership, and performance for positive social change. The individual will have an established track record of mentorship with students and faculty. The appointment will be made at the rank of full professor with tenure, consistent with the University of Georgia Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure . Successful applicants will have a strong record of external federal and/or other state and private foundation funding and be expected to engage with community nonprofit agencies in the Athens area, the Southeast, nationally, or globally. The Holland Distinguished Professor will be a faculty fellow of INPO and will contribute to advancing externally funded research that will involve nonprofit organizations to reach their social impact goals. The Holland Distinguished Professor will also contribute to projects in the School of Social Work's Practice and Research Clinic (PARC), a clinic education model designed to strengthen student experiential learning, competency-enhancing practicum education, and social impact.Applicants must have a doctorate in social work or equivalent degree in a cognate discipline (e.g. sociology, economics, public administration) or profession (e.g. law, medicine); an MSW is preferred but not required for the position. Additionally, an ideal candidate will have a background in philanthropy and/or nonprofit management or relevant specialized areas, and show a demonstrated commitment to social innovation, inclusive excellence, the principles of the NASW Code of Ethics, and social and economic development that leads to positive social change. The Holland Distinguished Professor will be expected to begin work in the position in fall 2024, teaching in the Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management and Leadership program, BSW, MSW, and Ph.D. programs in the School of Social Work. The position comes with a fund to support the endowed professor's research activity in nonprofit management and leadership. The School and Institution Chartered in 1785, the University of Georgia in Athens is a Carnegie RU/VH university, and the state's flagship institution of higher education. The School of Social Work provides professional education to over 600 students through its CSWE- accredited B.S.W. and M.S.W. programs, Ph.D. program, as well as the Master of Arts in Nonprofit Leadership and Management program. The School of Social Work also offers joint M.S.W. degree programs with the School of Law, the College of Public Health, and the Emory University Candler School of Theology. The School of Social Work is nationally and internationally known for excellence in research, teaching, public service, international programs, and a commitment to social and economic justice.
