Full-Time Visual Arts Position The Visual Arts Department at Grace Church School is looking for a Media and Photography teacher to join their department as the primary teacher of lens-based media for the 2024-2025 academic year. The role requires a mastery understanding of contemporary and historical practices in photography, film, and video art as well as an appreciation of how contemporary art practices inform and inspire students practicing with these media. The role of the Media and Photography teacher is also one of collaboration with the other visual arts faculty and faculty community as a whole, including coordinating the display of student work and exhibitions. Beyond teaching students in a classroom setting, the Media and Photography teacher assists students in their learning and visual arts expression through weekly tutorials and after-school work periods. Responsibilities: Teach two Introduction to Photography courses per semester. As the head teacher of this class, this position is in charge of curriculum development and classroom maintenance and care. Teach two advanced visual storytelling courses: Advanced Photography and The Moving Image. As the head teacher of this class, this position is in charge of curriculum development and classroom maintenance and care. This position includes assisting in maintaining and caring for the visual arts department labs and facilities. This position is responsible for managing check-out and returns of photographic/av equipment to faculty and students, as well as being available during our tutorial periods to meet and support students with their visual arts projects. As a full-time member of the faculty, this position will also be an advisor in our advisory program, and teach at least one Lab Day course. Requirements Faculty must be academically prepared and highly effective at teaching and designing curriculum for a rotating block course schedule of three 80-minute periods per six-day cycle, along with a weekly tutorial period for additional individual or small group instruction. Faculty must be adept at using technology for teaching and learning, and supporting students. In addition to teaching their core academic classes, all faculty teach in our Lab Studies program, focused on inquiry-driven, project-based, experiential real-world learning. Faculty also serve as advisors in small advisory groups that meet daily. Advisors are responsible for supporting, advising, and mentoring students through their four years of high school, helping them to understand themselves as learners and to lead their fall and spring family conferences, and to contribute to student life and the school community. We work in a team-based structure with a high level of communication and collegiality. Active participation in a faculty culture of continuous learning, professional development, and intellectual growth is expected and supported. Opportunities are available to coach, direct, and lead activities in the extracurricular program, in which all students are encouraged to participate. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree or beyond is preferred. Compensation This is a full-time faculty position with an expected base salary of $68,000–$155,040 commensurate with education and experience on the faculty salary scale.
