CHAIR AND OPEN RANK PROFESSOR ENGINEERING AND PHYSICS The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, invites applications from outstanding candidates for a full-time, open rank position in engineering and physics to assume the role of Department Chair. The start date for the position is August 2024. Working in collaboration with the Division Dean of Natural Sciences, Engineering & Mathematics and the department faculty, the department chair is the steward of the academic program. The successful candidate will find a highly functioning and growing department with a dedicated and cohesive team of faculty. The department offers a major in physics as well as ABET aligned majors in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, engineering physics, and mechanical engineering. Responsibilities: Obtain and maintain compliance with professional accreditations (ABET). Develop assessment plans, collect data, and prepare annual reports for regional accreditation (SACSCOC) in consultation with faculty and division dean. Develop and implement new and update existing academic programs as needed. Advise majors and assign faculty academic advisors for majors. Identify and mentor qualified full-time and adjunct faculty. Maintain a two-year rotation of course offerings. Teach undergraduate lectures and laboratory courses offered by the department. Develop a research program involving and suited for undergraduate student participation. Requirements: A Ph.D. in an engineering discipline appropriate to the department. Experience with curriculum development and ABET accreditation. Previous experience as a department chair or higher. Excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
