While people familiar with the area will say its 10 miles west of Corbin, KY or 17 miles southwest of London, KY, other might better reference that this area is 70 miles northwest of Knoxville, TN or 80 miles south of Lexington, KY or 150 miles northeast of Nashville, TN or 150 miles southeast of Louisville, KY. The Laurel River Lake is surrounded by some of the most rugged terrain west of the Appalachian Mountains and yet the camping, hiking, boating, and fishing draw more than a million visitors to the forest each year.
