POSITION SUMMARY The purpose of this position is to partner with parents and teachers in fostering a climate for students to achieve their God given potential through differentiation, curriculum development, and small group instruction with competence and compassion. This position actively engages in NorthPointe Christian’s mission of “Equipping students to impact their world for Jesus Christ.” This is a full-time position for the 2024-2025 school year. EMPLOYEE RESPONSIBILITIES Support the School’s Foundational Statements and mission through word and deed. Integrate Biblical principles and Scripture into daily activities. Minister to students through prayer, encouragement, and wise counsel. Follow safety protocols for where students can be and how to secure the building. Professionally represents the school in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students. Remain professional in attire and behavior. Maintain confidentiality of all matters pertaining to students, employees, and donors as outlined in NPC’s Confidentiality Agreement. Be timely in reporting to work and when at work. Carry out the procedures and protocols in the employee handbook and respect decisions made by leadership. Maintain open communication with leadership regarding questions, concerns, and needs. As a representative of the school, all written and verbal interactions with parents/guardians, co-workers, and the community must be professional and reflect the school positively. This includes one’s appearance, the content of the communication, and presentation of it. JOB DUTIES Plan and provide differentiated, remedial instruction to individuals and small groups of students; support in the push-in setting. Assist with the implementation of testing accommodations such as making sure students receive study guides, accommodating tests, providing reader and scribe services; this could include assistance with standardized tests such as the SAT. Plan parent meetings upon request and manage paperwork for specific caseload. Meet with teachers to develop alternate activities in line with established accommodations. Assist with special education record-keeping and filing; assist with year-end reporting procedures. Participate in weekly team meetings. Attend at least one professional training activity per semester. Practice effective classroom management practices which reflect a respect and understanding of the students’ particular strengths and challenges. Communicate positively and timely with team members, students, and parents a priority. Be committed to respond to all parent communication in a timely manner (within 24 hours on school days). Model, monitor, and assist general education teachers toward adherence to inclusive education program requirements. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS Active Christian in agreement with and willing to sign the NorthPointe Christian School’s Foundational statements. Bachelor of Arts in Education in Special Education or related field Certification or endorsement in Learning Disabilities and/or cognitive impairment Spanish Immersion experience preferred. Personal characteristics: Compassionate, organized, timely, flexible, strong listening and communication skills (orally and written), spiritual supportive, discerning, visionary, and collaborative. Able to pass required background checks and fingerprint screening. Exhibit the verbal ability to understand meaning of words, the ideas associated with them, and the ability to convey them to others clearly using oral expression and comprehension. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Physically able to: Frequently stand and sit for extended periods of time. Frequently use manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects, operate equipment, and move around the classroom. On occasion, engage with students while kneeling, squatting, stooping, or bending 50-70 degrees at the waist. Perform daily repetitive movement of fingers and hands when writing and typing. Read printed and electronic material daily. See with clarity objects using close, distant, and peripheral vision. Sufficiently hear conversations in person and distinguish sounds clearly up to 20 feet. Must be able to maintain continuous safety of the students and respond quickly and appropriately to any threat toward their well-being. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment is a standard classroom, office, or gathering space. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities.
