GENERAL MAINTENANCE ROAD WORKER: Full-time position available with the Cerro Gordo County Secondary Road Department. CDL with air brake endorsement required. Experience in heavy equipment operations preferred. Minimum starting pay of $24.03/hr. Applications will be accepted until filled with first review of applications on May 2, 2024. Applications can be completed online at https://cerrogordo.gov/ Posted: April 18, 2024 CERRO GORDO COUNTY, IOWA POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: General Road Maintenance Department: Secondary Roads Division: Road Maintenance Immediate Supervisor: Road Foreman Shift: Normally 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday – Friday (Subject to change with 2 week’s notice). Possible Summer hours are 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday – Thursday. Overtime as needed. Location: Cerro Gordo County - (Assigned location could be to any one of the following Maintenance Shops: Mason City, Clear Lake, Ventura, Rockwell, Dougherty or Thornton) FLSA: Non-exempt/position Salary Range: Starting pay of $24.03/hr to $25.44/hr, depending on experience and qualifications Approved by: Board of Supervisors Date: April 18, 2024 Applications due by May 2, 2024 Summary: Generally performs daily routine maintenance on the secondary road system. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Operate any equipment owned by the County as directed. - Maintain assigned equipment. - Make minor repairs to equipment not requiring the expertise of a trained mechanic. - Perform such work for other departments or agencies of the County as may be assigned. - Work a non-standard workweek due to extreme weather events and other emergencies (including nights and weekends). - Report road deficiencies to Road Foreman. - Related duties as assigned. - Attend schools and seminars as directed. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed as follows are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required. - Ability to learn secondary road maintenance procedures. - Ability to operate road maintenance equipment. - Ability to follow oral and written instructions. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. - Ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work methods. Education and Experience: - High school diploma (Relevant experience may be considered in place of education.) - Knowledge of the tools and equipment required to perform the job. Language Skills: - Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the general public. - Ability to deal with the general public in a tactful and courteous manner. - Ability to properly and effectively communicate in writing. Reasoning Ability: - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, diagram, or map form. - Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Iowa Commercial Driver's license. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. - The physical demands of this job fall under the Medium Work classification as defined by the US Department of Labor. Medium work involves exerting 36 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 22 to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or exerting a greater than negligible force up to 11 to 15 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Even if the weight lifted is a negligible amount it may include walking or standing to a significant degree or sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls. - The employee is required to drive two hours without a break for a total period of up to twelve hours. The employee must also be able to stand for two hours without a break. Work Environment: - The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. - While performing the duties of this job the employee may work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
