Technical Manager - Chief Metallurgist Location: Metallurgical Complex - Columbus, MT Schedule: 5x2, 4x3 - 9-hour days Job Responsibilities and Duties: The Technical Manager - Chief Metallurgist is responsible for providing technical support to the Metallurgical Complex operation as well as working with site leaders to develop and coordinate metallurgists and metallurgical engineering technicians throughout the Smelter and Refinery. Ensuring that the technical team operates in a safe and environmentally excellent manner is paramount to the success of the Metallurgical Complex. This position will build an environment that integrates the technical services group into a high performing team which works with operations to challenge existing norms and inspire creative solutions. The Technical Manager - Chief Metallurgist will lead the group in maintaining collaborative relationships with all departments leading to high-quality, fact-based decision making. Essential Functions: Provide leadership for a safe and productive technical team. Actively support Safety and Health Management and Environmental systems and regulatory compliance. Coach and mentor the Technical Services Department in accordance with Sibanye-Stillwater leadership values to ensure maximum support to operations and maintenance activities as well as other support groups. Regularly interact and be visible with the workforce, demonstrating high level leadership qualities. Work with the site leadership team in continuing the development of a focused, engaged culture throughout the organization. Develop and execute strategic planning and organizational development with the technical team, emphasizing personal career development of metallurgists. Foster cooperation, collaboration, and innovation to ensure that realistic technical goals are being set and met. Oversee month end metals accounting practices at the Smelter and Refinery, and engage with audit teams, positively representing US PGM technical and operational interests. Coordinate budgeting activities with the technical, operations, maintenance, and project groups. Drive continuous improvement and innovation. Be pro-active in all aspects of the operation; safety, productivity, business improvement initiatives, and teamwork across the site. Demonstrate positive two-way communication, fair and consistent administration of company policies and procedures, and responsiveness to employee concerns. Develop and communicate goals in cooperation with both the executive and site leadership teams. Qualifications and Skills: Required: Leadership qualities including character, teamwork, communication, business sense and vision. Strong ability to coach and mentor others, both peers and subordinates. Decisive leader with solid organizational and planning skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in process engineering, engineering economics, statistical analysis, and cost management. Proficiency in the preparation of operating and capital budgets. Experienced in PC based software programs, PowerPoint, Excel, Word and project-based software. Preferred: Experience in a smelting or a similar pyro-metallurgical facility Experience in a leaching, electro-winning, or a similar hydrometallurgical facility Experience in project management Education and Experience: Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related technical degree from a recognized institution. Minimum ten years' relevant mine processing experience, with a mix of production, project, and technical background. Minimum two years in a technical or operational leadership role.
