St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School (SSSAS) in Alexandria, VA seeks an Episcopal Chaplain and Religion Teacher who wants to make a real difference in our upper school community. Serving on a four-person chaplaincy team, the Upper School Chaplain will join our Senior Chaplain in our upper school division (grades 9-12). This position entails: Teaching a combination of scripture, ethics, and elective religion classes; Working closely with our student vestry, school musicians, and student speakers on weekly worship and other special services; Providing pastoral care to students and faculty; and Offering various faith formation and interfaith learning opportunities. The chaplain is a member of both the chaplaincy team and the Religion Department, and reports to both the Senior Chaplain and the Religion Department Chair. Chaplains on each division partner closely and work collaboratively with other faculty, student leadership, their divisional administrative team, our Director of Institutional Equity and Diversity, our Director of Service Learning and Community Engagement, our mental health counselors, and our wellness team. Candidates should highly value teaching and collaboration as a part of their ministry. We prefer an ordained Episcopal priest (or someone who is in the process towards Episcopal ordination), but we will also consider a candidate with experience in school chaplaincy or other intensive formation ministry experience. Candidates should be committed to equity and inclusion, and to our school's mission to honor the unique value of each of our members as a child of God, as the Chaplain will work with students, families, and colleagues with diverse backgrounds and identities.
