Broadway Advocacy Coalition seeks a visionary and strategic leader to serve as the Executive Director. The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for the arts, a commitment to social justice, and a proven track record of organizational leadership. About Broadway Advocacy Coalition The Broadway Advocacy Coalition is a Tony Award winning arts-based advocacy nonprofit dedicated to building the capacity of individuals, organizations, and communities to dismantle the systems that perpetuate racism through the power of storytelling and the leadership of people directly affected. Founded in 2016 by several members of the Broadway community as a direct response to the nation's pandemic of racism and police brutality, the Broadway Advocacy Coalition has since grown into a multidisciplinary organization uniting artists, experts, students, and community advocates to create lasting impact and collaborations on systemic racism and criminal justice reform. Via its partnership with the Center for Institutional and Social Change at Columbia Law School, BAC has created a groundbreaking course at the Law School and collaborated with public institutions across New York City including the New York City Council and the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office. The organization was also named to Variety’s 2020 “Broadway To Watch” list. Other past collaborations include the Gasping for Justice campaign featuring Jesse Williams, Fiona Apple and Alec Baldwin and the 24 Hour Plays "Viral Monologues" featuring DeRay Mckesson, Lynn Nottage and Aja Naomi King. The Role The Executive Director will play a pivotal role in implementing BAC’s strategic plan, driving its mission forward, envisioning its future, scaling and deepening the work, and establishing it as a leading force for change in the advocacy space. What Will You Do? The Executive Director will lead the execution of BAC’s strategic plan to build on and maintain momentum from BAC’s recent successes. Working collaboratively with the President and staff, this person will increase the organization’s visibility, advocacy efforts, and outreach in order to support the organization's short and long term goals. In the first 1-2 years, this will include a concerted focus on board development, fundraising, and fundraising infrastructure to ensure the organization's financial sustainability and continued impact and developing the organization’s operational infrastructure to support the execution of the recently completed strategic plan. The Executive Director will report to the Board of BAC and will supervise two Co-Directors of Programming, a Social Media Content Manager, and other staff, as needed. Areas of Responsibility Strategic and Team Leadership (~30%) Execute the organization’s recent strategic plan and help build towards a future one that aligns with the organization’s mission, vision and values Provide creative and innovative leadership to drive the organization's growth, impact, and sustainability Recruit, lead, and inspire a diverse and talented team of staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work culture Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members Guideand institutionalize operations Expand the work of BAC through seeking targeted partnership opportunities Advance the organizational culture rooted in equity, inclusion, and collaboration Support and govern the evaluation of programs Fundraising and Financial Management (~40%) Lead and supervise fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and special events (i.e.: the annual gala) Working closely with the Chair and President on board management, engagement, and recruitment Ensure the organization's financial sustainability through effective budgeting and fiscal management Ensure the organization maintains compliance with all relevant city, state and federal government regulations Advocacy (~15%) Work to increase and deepen the organization's visibility and influence in the arts and social justice arenas Support the development and implementation of innovative programs that leverage the power of arts for advocacy and social change Collaborate with the organization’s community and stakeholders to create initiatives that address pressing advocacy campaigns Outreach and Communications (~15%) Guide the implementation of institutional marketing and branding, rooted in compelling storytelling both in writing and in person, to stakeholders, potential funders, and the general public Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships and cross-sector partnerships with artists, activists, community organizations, and key stakeholders in the advocacy and arts sectors Amplify the organization's reach and impact to stakeholders and constituents Represent BAC in the press, and provide on record public statements, as needed Supervise communications staff in creating cohesive communication and press strategy for the organization Who Are We Looking For? Preferred background and skills include: proven leadership experience in an organization, preferably in the non-profit advocacy and/or arts sector a connection to the arts as an artist, administrator, and/or patron a passion for the intersection of arts and activism volunteer or professional experience in community organizing , advocacy, or social justice activism an eagerness, commitment, and experience in creating organizational structures that are anti-racist, equitable, and transformative excellent communication and relationship-building skills demonstrated success in raising funds and financial management an ability to think strategically, execute operational plans, and manage projects and people, effectively a track record of building and maintaining successful external partnerships How much are we paying and what are the perks? Annual Salary Range : $110,000-$120,000 Full time Location : Hybrid work schedule with on-site work at BAC’s offi ce (165 West 46th Street, Suite 1105, NYC 10036). The Executive Director must live in the NYC area (incl. NJ and Tri-State area), or be willing to relocate.
