Job Description and Duties Incumbents in one of these classifications, where a Master's Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay. Those where a Doctoral Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay. Individuals with both a Master's and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount. Under the general direction of the Research Scientist Supervisor I (RSS-I), Unit Chief of the Emergency Preparedness Unit (EPU) within EHLB-AQS, this Research Scientist II (RS-II) will provide input and technical expertise to plan, organize, and carry out scientific research, field investigation and/or policy projects of broad scope and complexity to reduce exposures to airborne pollutants and pathogens by improving indoor air quality (IAQ) as mandated under Health and Safety Code *425, *105400 et seq. This RS-II will also assists to develop education materials and provide consultation to local, state, and community organizations as related to ventilation, IAQ and control of infectious aerosols.This is a 12 month Limited-Term Full-Time position that may be extended or become Permanent. The California Department of Public Health's (CDPH) Environmental Health Laboratory Branch (EHLB) is responsible for laboratory services in support of public health programs, applied research, human studies related to chemical exposures, and analyses of environmental and clinical samples for toxic substances. These include lead and other heavy metal, persistent and non-persistent organic pollutants and their metabolites. EHLB provides technical assistance, develops new methods to better measure exposures, and serves as a reference and referee laboratory. EHLB consists of a Biochemistry Section that conducts lead testing & biomonitoring that provides measurement of heavy metals and organic environmental and biological pollutants, emerging contaminants identification as well as conduction of intervention study and an Air Quality Section that provides guidance and measurements on indoor air pollutant control, infectious aerosols, product emissions, dampness & mold, community air monitoring, and emergency chemical exposures including wildfire smoke.
