General Summary: This is an entry level manual labor position that aids and assists inclearing railroad derailments by lifting and moving derailed rail cars and locomotives,and performs similar duties on environmental remediation sites, industrial locations, andrail construction. Wage rates and working conditions are established by agreement withLaborer’s Union Local 773 in the United States and International Union 183 in Canada. Positions reporting to this position: This position does not have supervisoryresponsibilities, but may assist with on-the-job training of new laborers. Duties and Responsibilities (functions considered essential are marked by an *): • *Provides ground support for operations• *Drives tractor-trailer or escort vehicles• *Carries, handles and detaches/attaches heavy steel chains, blocks and steelcables, and other devices• *Climbs on and crawls under derailed railroad cars and other equipment• *Cleans, maintains and sets-up equipment requiring use of small and largetools• *Operates cutting torch and welding equipment• *Utilizes various hand and power tools• *Lifts 150 lbs. max with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 50 lbs.• *Works at elevated heights on railroad cars; bridges, over water, or in water• *Learns and complies with company policies and procedures, and safety rules• *Learns hazardous materials handling and precautions• *Maintains required equipment service records• *Assures safekeeping and proper usage of company tools• Performs other incidental and related duties as required JOB QUALIFICATIONS (refers to job, not incumbent):COMPANY REQUIRED TRAINING: OSHA 1910.120, Safety Rules, Policy and Practices, Final Rule under subpart H of theCode of Federal Register - protection requirement for workers engaged in hazardouswaste operations, including emergency response to hazardous substance incidentsinvolving the handling, processing and transportation of hazardous substances. DOT: Tractor-Trailer/Truck Driver: 904.383-010 PDL: Heavy - Lifting 150 lbs. max with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects up to 50 lbs. Educational Requirements: High School graduate or equivalent Required Certification/Licensure: Must be able to qualify for a Commercial DriverLicense and acquire a Passport for Company related job travel outside the UnitedStates Border for exiting and re-entry. Experience Requirements: Experience working in construction, landscaping, farmingor other outdoor occupations is preferred Knowledge/ Skills: (qualify level of skill required for this role: entry, intermediate, advanced)This is an entry level position that requires the ability to work on a team in emergencysituations, to understand and follow instructions, and to learn to drive tractor-trailerequipment. Must be able to use or learn to use tools and equipment, such as but notlimited to the following: pulleys, vises, hand and power tools, "skates"/rail skids,mechanic rollers, acetylene tanks, wooden blocks, steel collars/shackles, steel hooks,welding equipment, grinders, hydraulic jacks, steel chains and cable, portable lights,"come-alongs," tractors, forklifts, self-rigger/block truck, semi-truck and trailer, flatbedtruck, pickup truck, wheel barrow, pumps and generators Powered by JazzHR
