We are seeking two interns to work up to four (4) months with our Region 1 Sylvan Construction Office in Portland. This internship will be full-time work with a projected start date in May 2024. What you will learn: Represent ODOT on highway construction sites.Administer construction contracts with general contractor.Field inspection skills to include payment, schedule tracking, survey/layout, payroll, and contract enforcement.Understand and interpret engineering plans and specifications.Enforce provisions of construction contracts when work or materials do not conform with plans and specifications.Verify that projects have appropriate traffic control to ensure the safety of the traveling public.Ensure construction activities conform to environmental standards and permits.Generate project documentation required by various regulators, statutes and standards.Foster positive relationships with other ODOT employees, contractors, property owners and the public. Work conditions: Work outdoors, in all weather conditions, 50% or more of the time - field work involves working around construction equipment and traffic hazards, and walking on various types of terrain, climbing ladders, traversing scaffolding, and working in elevated locations.Field work may include night work. Minimum qualifications: We are accepting applications from civil engineering, construction management or related fields of study who:Start their freshman year at the time of hire (May 2024),Are in their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior year at the time of hire (May 2024). Special qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
