Practice Area: Patent Agents - Life Science General,Patent Agents - Hard Science General, Job Type: Attorney, Firm Type: Law Firm, A law firm in Chicago, IL, seeks a Patent Technical Specialist to support patent research, application preparation, and prosecution activities. The role involves leveraging a strong scientific background to develop patent strategies and interface with attorneys and staff. Ideal candidates will have 0-3 years of patent experience, with post-doctoral or related experience preferred.Duties:Assist with patent research, application preparation, and submission.Interface with attorneys, staff, and other departments as necessary.Aid attorneys in literature and patent searching.Assist in reviewing file histories of patents.Analyze literature and patent databases to assess patentability.Support patent application prosecution under attorney supervision.Prepare patent applications with close attorney guidance.Perform other assigned duties as necessary.Requirements:0-3 years of patent experience.Post-doctoral or related experience preferred.Advanced scientific degree (M.S., Ph.D.) or Bachelor's in a technical discipline.Strong technical writing skills.Sound scientific and technical knowledge.Awareness of case law sources and argument preparation.Understanding of patent prosecution procedures.Familiarity with leading patent law cases.Basic grasp of patentability requirements.Understanding of validity and infringement concepts.Knowledge of patent lifecycle stages and procedural requirements.Basic understanding of patent application structure.Ability to apply rules and guidelines within the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure.Proficiency in conducting and evaluating patent and literature searches.Skill in preparing key facts and observations for responses and opinions.Education:Advanced scientific degree (M.S., Ph.D.) or Bachelor's in a technical discipline.Certifications:None specified.Skills:Technical writing proficiency.Strong scientific and technical acumen.Effective communication and collaboration.Detail-oriented approach to reviewing patents and literature.Ability to work under close attorney supervision.Proficiency in applying legal rules and guidelines.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
