What you’ll do: FedTech is growing into the world’s leading deep tech innovation platform - in 2024, we’re on track to build 50+ new ventures from scratch around federal IP and accelerate 150+ established startups, along with directly supporting the United States’ R&D innovation engine. As we scale our venture building capabilities, we are looking to have greater regional impact in leading innovation ecosystems. Our initial focuses will be related to national security, aerospace and clean tech-related technologies. As the “Defense Innovation Team Lead”, your focus will be on managing our suite of diverse programs designed to take ideas from conception to product to scale within the broader defense ecosystem. You will establish best practices, design novel innovation programming, manage program finances, lead a diverse team, engage with clients, advise startups, and contribute positively to our team culture. Key Responsibilities: Portfolio Management Manage portfolio-level profitability, including actively managing and reporting on project-level budgets and staffing. Own and lead FedTech intrapreneurship, Startup Studio, and Accelerator programs that have a major impact on the success of commercializing research and innovation, with a focus on delivering and expanding current accounts within the DoD and broader Defense Industrial Base. Demonstrate/teach/coach design research, human-centered design, and agile/lean processes applied to breakthrough technology and venture creation/scaling. Manage project plans, stay extremely organized, and focus on the details of the program, including project management, scoping/billing system, project documents, project data, by staying organized, and focused on the details of program execution. Leadership and Team Oversight Coach, mentor, and motivate junior team members, including our Skillbridge fellows. Serve as a direct manager to early-mid career professionals. Manage team structure including team assignments, billable utilization tracking and hiring decisions. Build a strong internal network, promoting coordinate cross collaboration between other delivery teams and business functions within FedTech Participate in FedTech Leadership strategy sessions, including quarterly performance reviews and annual offsites. Client Management/Business Development Build strong rapport and trusting relationships with our client-partners within a portfolio that covers West Coast, Texas and East Coast accounts. Advise our clients on their goals, success metrics around innovation in their workforce, operations, marketing, partnerships, and more within the context of FedTech programs. Own new engagement scoping with prospects along with client renewals/upsell opportunities. Own research of opportunities and proposal development. Program Development Assist in exploring, designing, building, testing, and refining new programs and offerings relevant to the unique needs of partners and clients. Personal & Professional Development Develop your skills to demonstrate, teach, and coach scientists and entrepreneurs. Develop an understanding and expertise in deep tech, tech transition, and FedTech offerings. Continue to build professional skills and networks. Successful candidates will have the following qualifications: An advanced degree in business or engineering/science, or equivalent experience Approximately 10+ years of experience in relevant industries: entrepreneurship or entrepreneurial support organizations, professional services, management consulting, government contracting, or program management. Extremely strong program management skills, including relevant software tools (e.g., excel, asana, ppt, airtable, etc.) Experience in executing, renewing, and growing accounts. P&L ownership experience Familiarity with the needs of early-stage technology-oriented ventures and/or innovation at large organizations. Expert-level communication (oral and written) skills. Adept at motivating and supporting direct reports and other staff to achieve a shared vision. Ability to build strong relationships with a diverse set of people. Relentlessly drives towards action (testing, measuring, iterating) PMP and Six Sigma certifications are a plus. Experience in proposal writing is a plus. Compensation: Base salary range - 120-160k Ability to earn upside bonus and equity, rapid career progression. Location: Hybrid work arrangement (3 days in person at our headquarters in Arlington, VA and 2 days remote) is strongly preferred.
