Specifically, the TTAC staff work to improve instructional and behavioral practices of those who work with students with disabilities in an effort to increase the academic success of these students. Particular attention is given to those schools struggling to meet the state standards for making adequate yearly progress on indicators established by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and approved by the U.S. Department of Education.About the Position:To provide support in the form of training and technical assistance focused on specially designed instruction and high leverage practices to school personnel who work with students with disabilities in Virginia Superintendent's Region 4 within the context of a MTSS service delivery system.Responsibilities: * Creates/facilitates professional learning (PL) for school division staff in specially designed instruction for students with disabilities; * This specialized technical assistance provides support to school personnel for enhancing evidence-based and high leverage practices within the context of an MTSS service delivery system to facilitate improved outcomes for students with disabilities. Supports VDOE and TTAC initiatives as directed; * Works collaboratively with the TTAC Inclusive practices team to plan and implement focused support to identified school division staff; creates and provides resources and materials to support division goals; * Works collaboratively with VDOE leadership on statewide SDI projects and participates in training, development, and support activities, as directed; * Provides ongoing coaching and continuous support to school division staff related to training on specially designed instruction in virtual and in-person settings; * Collaborates with TTAC colleagues to integrate literacy with other initiatives to support division goals and enhance outcomes; and * Attends relevant PL sessions and VDOE meetings. Required Qualifications: * Master's degree or higher in Special Education, or equivalent combination of education and experience; * Substantial experience in a position related to special education and professional learning of teachers or administrators (typically 5+ years); * Leadership experience (typically 1+ year) in some capacity; * Knowledge and proven application of specially designed instruction, evidence- based practices and multi-tiered systems of support in academic, behavior and social-emotional domains; * Knowledge and proven application of embedded and virtual coaching models and resources to provide ongoing support to teachers and to teams in order to build capacity and achieve sustainability; * Knowledge of high leverage practices (HLP) and proven ability to embed HLPs into content areas for effective instructional and inclusive practices; * Knowledge of diverse classroom and virtual learning environments and ability to plan, assess, adapt and evaluate instruction to meet a variety of student and instructional needs; * Proven application of collaborative, communication and interpersonal skills and leading teams and professional learning groups; * Proven ability to plan, assess, deliver and facilitate effective professional learning in a variety of formats, such as on-site, virtual and hybrid models; * Proven ability to develop, implement and evaluate strategic action plans to accomplish short and long-term projects; * Proven ability in using data for decision-making, informing instructional practices and determining outcomes and future planning for continuous learning; and * Driver's license; must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator's license that meets all of GMU's requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason's Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in teaching in special education in a public school; * Experience working with division level administrators; * Experience in oversight of a medium to large scale project that includes supervision of staff and evaluation of performance; * Experience implementing multi-tiered systems of support and high leverage practices frameworks; * Knowledge of I'm Determined project; and * Knowledge of implementation science.
