Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Media Technologies & Productions, the Assistant Director, Post Production Facilities plays a crucial leadership role in overseeing the seamless operation of all post-production facilities at the School of the Arts and the School of Communication. This include coordinating schedules, managing budgets, and ensuring effective collaboration across all stages, and maintaining a productive work environment aligned with the department's vision. The Assistant Director is instrumental in addressing technical and personnel challenges, coordinating post-production efforts, and upholding high standards of quality and efficiency to meet project deadlines and budgets. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Provide leadership and direction to Post Managers across Audio, Film, Photo, Video, and Emerging Media to ensure operational efficiency and service excellence in each facility. Plan, manage, and oversee the operational and equipment budgets for post-production facilities, including approving staff purchases and ensuring alignment with institutional financial goals. Collaborate closely with department heads, faculty, technical staff, and other stakeholders to assess needs and identify necessary upgrades and acquisitions for post-production facilities and equipment. Conduct comprehensive audits of existing post-production workflows and facility utilization to identify and address bottlenecks, redundancies, and areas for improvement. Implement best practices, lean management techniques, and technology solutions to streamline operations, reduce waste, enhance productivity, and improve project management across facilities. Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to share resources, knowledge, and technology, fostering a more integrated and efficient use of post-production facilities. Develop and maintain a centralized database for scheduling equipment and facilities, ensuring optimal utilization, reducing conflicts, and minimizing downtime. Oversee the development and implementation of training materials and services to meet constituent needs, develop skills, and resolve issues, ensuring all users are proficient with new equipment or facility upgrades. Establish and maintain robust relationships with existing and potential vendors of equipment and software, managing vendor evaluation and selection processes to secure cost-effective and sustainable solutions. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies for both self and team, and identify professional development opportunities to enhance staff skills and capabilities. Ensure the proper and safe use of all facilities and equipment, with adequate supervision, to maintain a secure working environment for all users. Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging feedback and innovative ideas from staff and users, aiming to enhance service quality and operational efficiencies continually. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned, including but not limited to overseeing project management for facility upgrades and equipment acquisitions, ensuring minimal operational disruption. QUALIFICATIONS - Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job. Bachelor's Degree in Film Production, Media Production, or related field required. Minimum of 5 years of previous experience as a producer, director, editor, executive producer, or manager of significant projects through post-production required, including experience of managing staff. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job. Expert knowledge of all aspects of motion picture production, television, and video production. Knowledge of AVID Media Composer, Pro Tools, Adobe Creative Suite, and enterprise solutions such as Zendesk, Webcheckout, and When I Work. Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail. Strong leadership, management, and administrative skills. Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain up-to-date knowledge of standard and cutting-edge industry equipment, practices, and production trends, and make recommendations. Ability to work successfully and productively with students. Ability to work in a high-demand and fast-paced academic environment. Self-starter ability. WORK ENVIRONMENT - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. This position works in a studio and an office environment. Exposed to moderate noise levels COMPENSATION Compensation for this position will be between $ 70,400 - $ 86,300 annually, commensurate with experience.Grade of Position: 23-09EScheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25Division of Information TechnologyIn addition to a competitive salary, Emerson College is committed to the health and well-being of our employees and family members.
