Summary Objective The purpose of this position is to collect payments; open, close, and transfer water, sewer, and solid waste accounts utilizing online computer terminals. This class works under general supervision while independently developing work methods and sequences. Essential Functions The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Corresponds with customers, in person or in writing, to address policies, procedures, billing, collection, payment agreements, or other account-related transactions. Collects bill payments, batches, counts, verifies, and enters information into a log, showing account numbers, amounts, and types of payment; applies payments to accounts using an online computer terminal. Receives cash payments at the cashier window, answers customers' questions, enters payments into the computerized cash remittance system; maintains, safeguards, and reconciles cash daily; prepares bank deposits; retrieves billing information from the computer when needed. Perform research on lien placement of delinquent properties within the city as requested by the supervisor. Receives and responds to customer requests for account histories, duplicate bills, account name, and address changes; explains rates, rate changes, new services requirements, hydrant services, and extended payment policies. Receives complaints concerning excessive water usage; sends service worker to check the meter and meter readings; explains to customer procedures for self-check of leaks; explains meter investigation policies and charges; writes orders for meter investigations; corresponds with the customer concerning results of investigations. Performs related work as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High school or GED and one (1) year of general clerical or customer service experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience. This position requires the successful passing of a background check and drug screening .
