Position Description The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as Police Officers (Recruit). Police Officers attend the Police Academy and training sessions, and actively participate in all academy and training activities to learn the skills, knowledge, and functions required to become a sworn police officer. Police Officers are responsible for: Learning and performing tasks employing patrol methods, community relations, courtroom procedures, fingerprinting, report preparation, physical agility and strength formulation, and other police officer-related duties; Learning uses of various firearms and first aid methods, participating in field training with a senior Police Officer, Operates miscellaneous equipment including emergency vehicles, radar, and breath alcohol analyzers; writes and files daily activity report with a training officer, may assist an office in patrolling assigned areas of the City in a car, bicycle, or on foot; learns standard broadcasting procedures of a dispatch radio system, and performs related work as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED and must be 21 years of age by academy graduation; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience. Above average physical conditioning; includes running, climbing, crawling, and possess the ability to pass and maintain an entry level officer's physical fitness requirements. Physical Test 1.5 Mile Run: 15 minutes 20 seconds Push-Up: > 25 in one minute Sit-Up: > 30 in one minute Written Evaluation Must meet AZPOST minimum standards for sworn officers with the following link attached - https://post.az.gov/certification Supplemental information will be required for application to be considered. Physical Demands Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, hazardous materials such as chemicals, oils, and blood and other bodily fluids, extreme temperatures, exposure to the elements, travel across rough, uneven and rocky surfaces and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger, and a threatening environment.
