This is position is responsible for the safe operation of a school bus and other commercial vehicles, over designated routes while transporting children and/or adults safely and on time, completing forms and reports as required.DUTIESDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs daily pre-and port-trip inspections as directed under Federal, State and Tribal guidelines. Determines if vehicle is acceptable to drive based on inspections. Records all deficiencies in a timely manner and completing maintenance request forms. Confirms daily schedule with coordinator/supervisor in person, noting any changes to regular pick-up or drop-off schedules. Alerts coordinator and director when alternative routing or stops are necessary because of safety , inclement weather, construction of emergencies Fuels bus when necessary, making sure enough fuel is onboard for next scheduled route. Drivers bus to scheduled pick-up and drop-off stops, while obeying all traffic laws. Ensures safe load and unload procedures are followed at all times. Driver will contact center in the event of a breakdown. Ensures children are seated, buckled up, and demonstrates safe behavior on the bus at all times. Determines when a child's behavior warrants further action. Exhibits professional courteous behavior in all interactions with children, parents, school officials, and the general public. Completes and submits bus and time reports as required Attends all required safety, pre=services and in-services trainings during the school year Ensures the bus is clean at all times and the aisle ways are kept clear for safe access to emergency exits. Conducts periodic passenger evacuation drills in full compliance with all state and federal requirement. Completes various other required forms, including incident/accident reports as required by Tribal policy Maintains valid commercial driver's license at all times and immediately reports any changes in license status which could infringe on qualification of safe operation of required vehicle class license. Post-trip inspections of inside of bus/van to ensure no children remain on the vehicle after each route. Assist in the routing efforts with coordinator for scheduled pick-up and drop-off addresses, ensuring that all information (i.e. address phone numbers) is accurate and up-to-date. Ensures that routes are not over 1 hour long, and they are within services boundaries and are efficiently routed. Coordinates transportation for families attending scheduled special events. Ensures that emergency consent forms are on board and up-to-date, the form that stars who the children may be released to are on board and up-to-date. Maintains confidentiality in all record keeping and reporting, Attends all Monthly staff meetings and management team meetings. Responsible for keeping current on all Head Start Performance Standards Head Start Policies & Procedures and tribal personnel policies Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or Equivalent The driver must meet all federal requirements for Head Start Drivers under the 1310 final rule. Maintains a commercial driver's license (CDL), first aid /CPR certification, and a clean driving record while employed by Nisqually Indian Tribe. Must pass a State and National (FBI) criminal history background check, driving background check, urine analysis test stating you are drug free, and if hired, submit to random drug testing throughout your driving career with Nisqually Tribe Head Start, paid for by the Tribe. Abide by all confidentiality policies and agreement Familiar with Head Start Performance Standards, or working towards learning them. Experience that demonstrates knowledge and sensitivity to the variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the families and children being served. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Knowledge and experience maintaining program records. Must pass a physical exam stating clear of communicable diseases. Willing to work non-traditional work hours/days on occasion.
