The mission of The Council of State Governments' Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) is to foster and encourage intergovernmental cooperation among its 15 member states . In large measure, this is achieved through the ongoing work of the Conference's six standing committees and supporting groups. Through member outreach in state capitols, policy research, international member delegations, staff exchange programs, meetings and fly-ins, staff support state policymakers in their work to build a stronger region. Job Summary Through collaboration with the Programs and Marketing Director, and with the Southern Office Director, the Design and Marketing Associate coordinates all general membership outreach and implements optimal methods for the communication of policy and research materials through print and electronic mediums. In addition, the Design and Marketing Associate is responsible for creating and coordinating CSG South printed materials; maintaining office brand standards and related instructional materials; implementing website content updates, graphic design, and promotional office communications. The Design and Marketing Associate serves in a support role related to instructional materials, formatting, and style guidelines for office deliverables, and editing. The position requires sound judgment and maintenance of collaborative relationships with both internal staff and external stakeholders of the organization. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Digital and Print Communications In conjunction with the Programs and Marketing Director, develops and maintains the distribution of CSG South membership and programmatic email, website, and social communications In conjunction with the Programs and Marketing Director and Regional Director, evaluates and coordinates all membership outreach efforts Develops and implements optimal methods for the distribution of print and online policy, research, and programming materials Assists in social media content development and scheduling Maintains editing and writing style standards to ensure quality and consistency for office deliverables Publications and Design Designs and coordinates production of all CSG South print materials including, but not limited, to brochures, postcards, reports, research publications, and promotional materials Maintains brand standards for CSG South online, print, and website communications Serves as office photographer as needed, utilizing photos for print, online, and social platforms Ensures CSG South publications and products meet grammar, style, and quality standards as determined by the Style Guide Website Manages all aspects of CSG South website including writing, editing, and posting content Coordinates with office departments for content publishing of departmental updates, leadership programs, policy workshops, event recaps, and other topics as needed Implements latest trends and emerging technologies in web design and search engine optimization (SEO) Constituent Management Assists with maintaining and updating Quorum, CSG South membership database Develops custom database reports and functions to assist with advancing communications output Develops and maintains interactive forms for program registrations and surveys Annual Meeting Designs print materials including the promotional brochure, program book, and supporting collateral In conjunction with the Programs and Marketing Director, creates and schedules all email marketing campaigns Assists with the State Transformation in Action Recognition (STAR) Award including program promotion, deadlines, submission process, judges panel coordination, day of program, and award distribution Supports policy and program staff with committee/program sessions Skills & Abilities Ability to balance and successfully complete multiple projects with overlapping time constraints and deadlines Ability to act in a professional manner and exhibit appropriate interpersonal skills in relationships with both internal and external sectors Ability to work well both independently and be an approachable, collaborating member of a team Ability to identify opportunities to increase speed, efficiency, and quality of processes Ability to develop proficiency in licensed and open-source applications and programs, as needed Advanced writing, proofreading, and editing skills Ability to interact effectively with diverse people in different contexts and foster equity and inclusion through self-awareness, cultural sensitivity, and valuing others. Dedication to public service with an unfailing commitment to act with civility, be nonpartisan in performing CSG duties, and be a responsible steward of member and donor funds. Travel by plane and vehicle, overnight and for varying lengths to fulfill duties and responsibilities as needed Education & Experience Requirements Advanced knowledge of graphic design applications within the Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Pro Experience working with Canva, Mailchimp, and CRM platforms preferred Understanding of web-centric graphic design, usability, and typography issues Extensive knowledge of writing guidelines established by the Associated Press High efficiency with products of the Microsoft Office Suites, SharePoint, and Teams platforms Experience with web content management Bachelor's Degree required (or equivalent combination of education and experience) Minimum of 1-2 years' work experience that includes graphic design, website management, and content creation Application Instructions Interested candidates must complete the online application and include their resume, cover letter and one graphic design piece.
