COMPANY PROFILE The Plant Company (TPC) is a newly established business currently operating in its Phase 1 production facility. Phase 1 encompasses a 5 acre greenhouse facility along with a 1.5 acre production barn. This is a state of the art, controlled environment greenhouse for the sustainable production of tropical indoor foliage plants of consistent and exceptional quality. The four core values that identify this company are: Caring About People, Plants, and Process Growth Oriented Customer First "Can Do" Attitude POSITION OVERVIEW Directly supervise and coordinate activities of horticultural workers involved with planting, production, and shipping activities. This is a collaborative company in which we all work together to achieve our goals. There will be times when you may be asked to lend a hand outside of your main responsibilities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS This position may involve any of the following: Assign duties, such as planting, sorting, spacing, harvesting, and shipping of plants, product packaging or grading, or equipment maintenance. Train workers in techniques such as planting, harvesting, weeding, or insect identification and in the use of safety measures. Estimate labor requirements for jobs and plan work schedules accordingly. Read inventory records, customer orders, planting, spacing, or shipping schedules to determine required activities. Confer with managers to develop plans or procedures, or to discuss issues such as changes in work processes. Review employees' work to evaluate quality and quantity. Observe workers to detect inefficient or unsafe work procedures or to identify problems, initiating corrective action as necessary. Drive or operate farm machinery, such as forklifts and tugs, to transport plants or supplies. Direct or assist with the adjustment or repair of equipment or machinery. Inspect facilities to determine maintenance needs. Prepare and maintain time or payroll reports, as well as details of personnel actions, such as performance evaluations, hires, promotions, or disciplinary actions. Other duties, as assigned. REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: Self-starter with ability to problem solve and good decision-making skills. Ability to do repetitive tasks in a fast-paced environment. Attention to detail and high-quality standards. Positive attitude and teamwork approach to get tasks done. Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and work with team towards a solution. Ability to determine causes of operating errors and decide what to do about them. Positive attitude and team player. Excellent communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. Prior safety management experience Bilingual- Spanish/English preferred. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school graduate, or equivalent Associates Degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment Self-starter with ability to problem solve and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational, communication, time management, decision-making, and people skills Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Bending, stooping, and squatting involved in the scope of role. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Manual dexterity as needed to operate a variety of machinery and equipment. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions, including humidity, various outdoor temperatures, and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with the greenhouse.
